[Day 2 - MA] Earthy Pepper Festival [Observation Thread]

[Dapper Dog]

"Duty is a bitch, but it keeps us busy," she said casually.

[Kitsuki Naida]

"Leaves fall in their season, and emerge again when the time comes, yes," Yuuwaku replies as she snags a towel from one of the many runners handing them out.

With a short bow, she offers it to Naida with both hands.

Taking it with a small bow and both hands, Naida stood up straight, dabbing at her forehead before toweling off her neck.

"Mmm... I really could use a bath again later. Still, the breeze feels nice, even if it looks like some are a bit chilled by it in their fundoshi. This is nothing compared to mountain training though., ice cold waterfalls not withstanding."

[Kakita Yuuwaku]

Taking it with a small bow and both hands, Naida stood up straight, dabbing at her forehead before toweling off her neck.

"Mmm... I really could use a bath again later. Still, the breeze feels nice, even if it looks like some are a bit chilled by it in their fundoshi. This is nothing compared to mountain training though., ice cold waterfalls not withstanding."

"I would imagine not," Yuuwaku replies. "It seems to have done you good, though, so perhaps I might have to try it sometime, if I ever get up that way."

She looks out over the processions and proceedings still in progress.

"Though it seems there are many paths to such things."

[Daidoji Kaneko]

"Duty is a bitch, but it keeps us busy," she said casually.

"Indeed." She replied.

"You seem to have found a Duty which you excel at, however. Should there be opportunity for you to make it to our harbors again soon, we will be ready and willing to make sure your 'busy-work' is put to good use." She bowed.

"And should anything arise while we are both here that you stand in need of, do not hesitate to ask."

[Yoritomo Xung-Ji]

"Always working the angles, eh Daidoji-san?" she replied with a laugh.

"No time to relax, even at a wedding?"

[Doji Soon-ja]

"I wouldn't underestimate anybody's tastes, Doji-sama," she said with a wry smile. "Regardless, I suspect that you might have had your fair share of suitors throughout your life."

"You're kind to say so," the elderly woman said with another smile. "Perhaps I shall make the attempt, at the next fertility festival."

The sailor rolled out her neck, shoulders, and ankles. "Seems like the other one did too. Personally, I think we did better," she beamed.

"Yes, it looked very well done," Soon-ja concurred. "Do you have similar festivals in the Mantis Isles? Or is it perhaps alike to some kind of ship-board duty?"

[Kitsuki Naida]

"I would imagine not," Yuuwaku replies. "It seems to have done you good, though, so perhaps I might have to try it sometime, if I ever get up that way."

She looks out over the processions and proceedings still in progress.

The festival seems to have both brought out the best in people, as well as the best of people, from a training perspective. I'm sure the Crab would have it no other way, nor the Fortunes being honored. What with the lack of subtlety to everything, for one afternoon."

[Kakita Yuuwaku]

Taking a glance out at the festivities, Naida smiled softly, putting the white towel around the back of her neck, under her ponytail, "You're right. The festival seems to have both brought out the best in people, as well as the best of people, from a training perspective. I'm sure the Crab would have it no other way, nor the Fortunes being honored. What with the lack of subtlety to everything, for one afternoon."

Yuuwaku nods.

"I have the sneaking suspicion, though," she says, "that a more...thorough survey of the grounds would reveal some nuances that are not showing up quite so much amid the revelry.

"And all kinds of questions come to mind." She leans in just a bit, lowers her voice. "Who are the models, for one."

[Toritaka Hanatsuko]

The Toritaka looked at the parade as people continued with the celebrations to the fortunes for a prosperous and fertile marriage.
When will you talk to a nakodo and get married.
"I don't know. My duty to find spirits is complex and will not give me time to be a good wife."

What is a good wife anyways, Hana chan? You should think about it maybe will find a good husband and have lots of little children.

Hanatsuko laughed and patted the falcon on the head.

"That will be the day... Me taking care of little human chicks."

[Yoko]

Masao's conflict through all of this is clear from his face. "I suppose there is...," he swallows noticeably, "some enjoyment to be had. And I'm glad I'm not alone in being 'not used to it.'" He looks at Yoko, about to say something else, but in that moment he realizes his eyes didn't make it as far as hers, so he quickly closes them.

"Ah, this is..." He rubs the bridge of his nose, and his voice drops, so only she can hear it: "I haven't ever seen something like this. The closest thing was a few days of jiujitsu training at the academy, when everyone was dressed like this, but they weren't..." He vaguely waves a hand toward Yoko.

"Only need to look toward your cousins to find a few," she suggested while her brow furrowed a little in thought on the next. Crossing her arms over her chest a little she quirked that very brow, "Scarred? Kakita-sama?"

[Kitsuki Naida]

Yuuwaku nods.

"Probably some monk, no? Some elder tending to the shrine who has the time to model for a sculptor, no?"

[Togashi Keigo]

Keigo entered the celebration once his team is done, accepting a towel from a runner. Rather than diving into the party, he sat back and relaxed for them moment, casually people-watching rather than seeking out food or drink. It was nice to relax after all than.

It didn't occur to him to go get dressed - being barely dressed was pretty normal anyway, and in colder climates.

"More seriously, though, process and material are always of interest. There are always lessons to learn; I guess it's one of the better things about being an artist, that we are encouraged to seek such out."

Yuuwaku looks at Naida again. "It's been an illuminating trip so far, in that regard and others."

[Kakita Masao]

"Only need to look toward your cousins to find a few," she suggested while her brow furrowed a little in thought on the next. Crossing her arms over her chest a little she quirked that very brow, "Scarred? Kakita-sama?"

Keeping his eyes closed, he manages to quietly say, "I was trying to say, my classmates, were not so beautiful as you." He swallows hard. "I'm sorry, the soldier cannot find the words that come so easily to a courtier or poet."

"Sometimes I think I should take up an art myself. Other than the Art that is. Something I could do while on the road to pass the time and work off some creativity. It would give me an opportunity to learn some of those lessons you're talking about."

A pause.

"...I don't suppose you have any suggestions on that front?"

[Yoko]

Keeping his eyes closed, he manages to quietly say, "I was trying to say, my classmates, were not so beautiful as you." He swallows hard. "I'm sorry, the soldier cannot find the words that come so easily to a courtier or poet."

"You are speaking to a ronin, Kakita-sama. I'm not- I wouldn't know what a courtier or a poet might say to suggest something like that, so.. maybe you did? I wouldn't know any better," she shrugged, glancing off elsewhere in the area where they were. "Thank you, though, for what it's worth. Just temper any expectations, eh?" she looked back, a short smirk.

"Sometimes I think I should take up an art myself. Other than the Art that is. Something I could do while on the road to pass the time and work off some creativity. It would give me an opportunity to learn some of those lessons you're talking about."

A pause.

"...I don't suppose you have any suggestions on that front?"

"I recommend such a thing, of course, and to anyone who will hear it," Yuuwaku replies earnestly. "Thinking back over lessons and lectures, calligraphy comes to mind as one that works well for duelists. Painting would, as well, and I have some supplies, if you'd like to try. Dance, I know, has many parallels, and I think you could do it well."

She pauses, hand rising to cover chin in an attitude of thought. "You travel afoot a lot, though, so something that asks for less material might be better. Calligraphy would work better than painting for that. Dance, again, but an audience makes that work so much better--while more static arts can be presented after.

"And music is always an option."

[Daidoji Kaneko]

She smiled, "Idleness is not my favored kind of relaxation. Creating bonds and sharing experiences with others may seem like my 'Duty' but it also is how I enjoy myself. The side-effect that doing that which I enjoy could potentially lead to better things for my clan is a happy accident more than anything."

She finished the last bite penis-ka-bob, "So if you have need of a relaxation partner... or patron if need be. Now is the time. It is a wedding after all... what better time for it?"

"I recommend such a thing, of course, and to anyone who will hear it," Yuuwaku replies earnestly. Naida patted herself down before frowning a little, "...right, no room in this outfit for my pipe. That's too bad; I could use a bit of relaxation after that."

"I can imagine," Yuuwaku replies.

"A smoker? Never have tried it, myself."

[Doji Yuma]

Keigo entered the celebration once his team is done, accepting a towel from a runner. Rather than diving into the party, he sat back and relaxed for them moment, casually people-watching rather than seeking out food or drink. It was nice to relax after all than.

Yuma had managed to miss the Togashi he had heard about so far, but it wasn't really possible to not notice him at the moment, his distinctive tattoos even more exposed than usual.

He slipped out of the crowd in turn to join him.

He bowed:

"Togashi-sama? This one is Doji Yuma, priest of the Crane, and student of Togashi Taiki in the art of tattooing."

[Daidoji Kaneko]

"I'll think about it," she said to the woman.

"I like to leave my business on the waves, when it's done it's done. But maybe things are simpler for a warrior like me."

"For sure." She nodded.

"And for me, the wise and interesting folks always tend to have their guard up due to my profession. Makes everyone think I mean business when I just mean to enjoy company."
