Sen was very much a better listener than a speaker. No matter how long-winded Meiko’s story might have been, the Hiruma sat quietly, eyes on the Moshi while sipping tea. Sen hadn’t met a Moshi before this, so hearing about the Valley was interesting.

Meiko pauses for breath and another few sips of tea, clearly pleased to have a willing audience for once.

“Huh. You seem to fall a lot. At least you didn’t fall into a bush this time, Moshi-san.” Sen looked over towards the Tsuruchi to see how he was holding up.

Shouji appeared to be fine, he had just refreshed his cup of tea and had been politely ignoring all the praise Meiko had been heaping on him. "Or off the boat." The Captain observed with a slight smile.

"Have to keep an eye on her around the boat is she gets near the railing." He teased.

“I just like getting up high sometimes. It’s tough when you only see people from below. I know what everyone’s chins look like but sometimes you want to see a face. Besides I haven’t fallen off the railing yet and last time I fell elsewhere Hiruma-san caught me.”

“Huh, never thought of it like that. I’m pretty average, I figure. So I guess that means around Hida I have to look up.” Sen tried not to make herself look too big in front of the Moshi. Didn’t want to make her feel even smaller, after all.

[Tsuruchi Shouji]

"And I don't have to look up often at all." Shouji offered with a chuckle. "Though it's not always thar bad for Meiko here."

"A couple other of my Crew members only have her on height by a few inches." Though that still meant lookign up. "So at the right place on the deck she's eye level if not a bit taller."

"Exactly, if you plan it right you can see everyone at head height. And Minari-san and Tetsuo-san are at least not....huge."

“Huh, you have more on your crew that’s almost as small as Moshi-san? Are they also Moshi? Are Moshi known to be small like Hida are known to be big?” Sen was learning things all kinds of things about the Mantis today.

[Tsuruchi Shouji]

"Moshi Minari, my navigator." Shouji confirmed with a smirk, "As well as Yoritomo Tetsuo, bot atre almost as short as Meiko here." He nodded towards the tiny girl. "Though Minari is the tallest of the lot."

"I don't think the Moshi are particulary known for beign short. Meiko could likely tell you better hten I though."

"Well, I'm small, and my sisters are small, and Minari-san is small, but most Moshi are normal, which means they're shorter than most Crab. I think since we live in a small valley there's less room, and so when the population goes up we get smaller. It means we can fit more Centipede in."
Meiko nods sagely, pretty sure that was how genetics worked.

“Is your fellow Moshi crew mate anything like you, Moshi-san?” Sen had to wonder a bit if Meiko was the product of a Moshi upbringing and that most Moshi would be like her.

“Oh no” raising her hands up”no no no. Minari-san is the other Moshi.”

"She takes more after her Father." Shouji observed with a faint smile.

"so she's a bit more rough around the edges." That was likely a polite way of saying it.

That caused Sen to raise a brow. She was tempted to meet this Moshi. “They say that about most Crab. Is she like the Hida or something?”

"She's a sailor by nature if that any explanation. I don't think that is quite like a Hida." Minari wasn't the type to swing a club at your skull after a;;. Or start a fist fight as far as he had seen.

"Might be close though?"

“I wouldn’t want to say anything bad about her. She’s family.”
But she smells of smoke and swears all the time!

“Oh.” None of that really explained anything to poor confused Sen, who looked rather confused. “Well, if she is Moshi-san’s family, she can’t be bad at all.”

“What’s important is that we’re a tight-nit crew here. On a boat you just end up knowing everyone and what they like and don’t like. Sometimes you learn very fast!”

“Ah! What kind of stuff have you learned?” Sen seemed a bit curious. She’s only ever been close with her parents. “Well, other than their general sleep patterns, I guess.”

“Lots of how to get out of the way quickly. Or how to pick up things. Or who likes sugar in their tea and who prefers sochu. Oh, and some code words for sailing, like how port doesn’t mean a port, it means left!”

"There are quite a few things like that, which are important fir sailing. Or at least important to sailors." Shouji offered with a smile.

"Part of everyone's first few months on a ship is getting to know them."

“Ahhh. Does that mean that Moshi-san is still learning the ropes?” Sen turned towards the Moshi expectantly. “Sailing ropes. Not rope snare ropes.”

“I suppose!” nodding enthusiastically “I don’t think I’m a natural sailor, so I try to assist captain-sama in other ways. I am a natural with rope snares though, I get hauled up quick and easy.”

Sen had to admit that Meiko was pretty good at walking into traps. “Maybe you’d be a natural in settin’ one up, too?”
