Description: The Hole is the spot to be tonight, the entertainment is lively and the booze is flowing if one has the coin to enjoy the festivities. It’s supposed to be a party for the groom to be, but any excuse to drink and have fun is good enough for most Crab.

Rules: To join the thread the player must spend 3 zeni at the door, or make an optional Intimidation check at TN 15 but this increases the TN of the event roll by 10. Each raise on this roll decreases this penalty by 1.

Party Hard

Next the player makes a single check out of those below, raises made on this roll grant a +2 bonus to the next and final stage of the event, failure with raises grants a -2 per raise:

I drink: The player makes a Stamina check at TN 10 to drink like a fish in honor of the Groom. This is considered a poison for any abilities that are affected by that. Failing this roll means the player makes a scene equal to a Breach of Minor Etiquette.

I know things: The player makes a Storytelling + Awareness or Battle + Intelligence check at TN 15 to tell a great story of battle to entertain the party. Failing this roll means the player gets into a scuffle over someone taking offense and suffers 2k1 wounds in the fighting.

I do things: The player can make a Temptation (Seduction) + Awareness or Perform + Varies check at TN 15, TN 10 for Temptation (Seduction), to play music, dance, or some other performative skill to entertain the party. Using Temptation means the player does a seductive performance and gains .2 Infamy for doing so.

The Boast or Roast

The player makes a Sadane + Awareness check at TN 15 or a Courtier + Awareness check at TN 20 to either roast the Groom with a wicked barb or boast them with kind and honorable words. If successful the player can earn Glory equal to .2 for a successful roll with an additional .1 for every two raises made on this roll.

Rewards/Outcome: As noted above, possible Glory gain.

[Kitsuki Naida]

This was what she was talking about; Weddings meant parties, parties meant food and drink. Sure, the cover charge was a thing, but she understood the Crab could hardly be expected to totally foot the bill with their duty being what it was.

A drink in, and the hat came off. Another drink inn, and the kimono was off the shoulder. One last drink and she was doing a little dance in the corner, using a table as a prop for her to go with the flow of a true party. She even poured some drink on herself for some extra spicy flair.

Still, when it came time for toasts she had the wherewithal to be honorable and polite about it, and not slur things too much; She was here to celebrate, not to bring the mood down.

[Moshi Minari]

It wasn't the first time the short navigator was trying to keep up with Hida warriors twice her size, and it wouldn't be the last. And over the course of the evening, Minari would get so drunk that some of the sake would be fertilizing the grass outdoors... along with her dinner.

But all the drinking was certainly making her tongue more loose than usual.

"I heard we were here to roast... or toast... whatever - I was told we're here to throw some shit around as we get shit-faced ourselves to night, all in honor of a great Crab warrior, who has inspired many tales of bravery and feats of strength, and is looked up to by several of his peers and family. Unfortunately, that warrior couldn't make it here tonight, so it's going to have to be Hida Yuji."

[Asahina Sanaharu]

He had heard there were a party in honor to the groom. And where there is a party, there is also Sanaharu. Cheering things up was literally his job. What the Crane did not expect was that it would be hosted in so vulgar and lewd of a place. It was quite early in the night, and not many had arrived, and also not many were drunk. They had a castle... And they hosted a party here. Sanaharu was not one to have high expectations of the Crab, and tonight they were even surpassed.

No one of importance near to witness the short moment, he broke his on to sigh and put on his face an annoyed expression. Upon hearing it was needed to pay, even an worse feeling went down his gut — he had not brought any servants of him to do this kind of work! He put his coin purse in the hand of the heimin who dealt with the money, and watched him take one koku and put another many coins on the now heavier little bag.

He had himself, so he needed nothing more. His on was straight, which on theory meant that his emotions were also straight. On reality, that threatre classes on the Academy were really good on keeping the turmoils of your soul outside your face. He put himself over the corner for a small moment, waiting for more people to arrive, all whilst observing what was happening one. Lots of Hida bushi drinking, and the groom could be any of them. A... Dragon... doing something sleazy.

He closes his eyes not to dishonor her by watching any further, waiting some seconds and turning his head to open them again and stare at the door to the place. When he thought to himself there were enough people inside, he started to walk in proper composture in the direction of the centhre of the room.

He made a sincere speech, trying to make it something Crab would like to hear — an enthusiastic voice, words simple and generic analogies to relate to — instead of how he usually done it in the controled, polite, flowery way of the Crane. This speech was on the joy of attending the wedding and the urge to celebrate, as well boasting the qualities of the groom. Although it did not end up as he wanted, not even knowing the groom on the first place...

Well, this was a thing. Honestly it reminded the young Captain of some of the parties back on the islands, most of which he had skipped out on. Still it was apparently his duty to attend and at least attempt to have a good time. Mostly through a massive amount of drinking, which didn't even seem to effect the young man.

Then it was the time to toast or roast or whatever the lucky groom and the Captain seemed to think a roasting was due. "I've heard stories of Hida Yuji. How he is handsome, and big and strong. Which as you can see is certainly true." He gestured towards the large crab. "Which makes it a bit of a shame, because upon entering this fine establishment I keep on hearing rumors about how other parts are not so long."

[Yue]

Yue had only poked her head inside to see what the commotion and parting were about. It was perhaps to her surprised when she was approached by one of the staff and she already had her excuse at hand, ready to return to the streets and not cause any trouble. However, it was perhaps to her surprise that drinks were on the house! Her drink, especially. She felt awkward by the gesture of generosity and felt like she should reject it. However, it would have caused her to lose some sleep if someone else drank sake that was meant for her.

She entered the establishment, standing at the end of the bar to have some drinks. One pour followed another and another. Just as she was ready to return the cup in her sleeve she was given yet another pour...Her head went light at the drinks that were given to her but she managed to keep her composure.

When asked for her opinions on the proceedings, she could only give two big blinks at the question. "I hope he finds happiness with his union and his new wife, too."

[Yoko]

Yoko came here for a good time, but she didn't come here for this good time. In fact, she had an entirely different idea on how she would be spending her money tonight. Only to be told at the door that there was a party and she was able to come in without charge thanks to a generous donation. After getting the name, and smiling at the acknowledgement it was one she already knew, Yoko took herself into the party.

As likely expected of her, she was composed but a little rough around the edges. Then she got drunk and she was just rough around the edges, but in the kinda way that involved putting arms over people and toasting the roof for always being there to support them. Loudly and drunkenly singing along with all the other fools.

When it came time to a roast she took up her spot and offered words of wisdom, "That Hida Yuji sure is-- big," and then she ceded the floor.

Amika was not one that usually came to this type of establishments and had a night of drinking. She grew around these types of places though, it was just that it was not her type of thing. Nonetheless, hearing that the groom was throwing this celebration and that some generous Mantis samurai had paid for her type, she could not refuse to be here.

At first she just sat in a corner, watching like everyone else was having good fun, some a bit too much, like the dragon maybe showing a bit too much skin, but she was not here to judge, of course. She simply drinks and rarely enough, even though she was did not had training in the art of drinking sake she actually managed to drink a lot and didn't pass out nor it did affect her decorum and composture.


When there was a lull in the general noise, Amika rose up and gave a short toast to the Groom's honor. '' Let your life from here on be blessed by the Kami, Hida Yoji-sama. This one knows that Hida-no-kami and the rest of your honorable ancestors are watching you and your destiny forward in this new path you are taking, and no matter the obstacles in front of you, you will not fail.'' She offered and bowed. With her toast done, the ronin returned to her seat and continued to be quiet on a corner.

[Kakita Masao]

Kakita Masao slipped into the... establishment without fuss, tossing coins to the man at the door. It was loud, as he'd expected, and crowded, even more than he'd expected. But the bushi wasn't intimidated: he was on a mission to support this wedding, and attending a party for the groom wasn't even going to register as a discomfort. After some of the places he'd seen that his Iron Warrior brothers would drink at -- yeah, this place is fine.

It's not long before Masao has the bright idea to gain some attention in the crowded room via his flute, although he has the briefest hesitation about being able to win out against the din of so many conversations. With a deep sigh, he commits to his plan -- then he starts pushing and making some noise to get attention. "You all want to see what a Crane can bring to this party?," he said tauntingly.
"How about, a Daidoji Iron Warrior? With his trusty... Flute." Masao raises it high, prompting a few snickers among the attendees who can actually hear him. But it generates enough attention --meaning enough quiet -- for Masao to launch into the song he knows will wow this crowd. It isn't terribly long, but it does a wonderful job of conjuring the building of waves until they crash down as a tidal wave, or the growing anxiety as soldiers march to battle until they unleash that energy upon the enemy. It's a stirring tune -- one Masao never gets to use in his father's court -- that is perhaps ideally suited to the shorter attention spans and less artistic tastes of the mostly Crab assembly.

When Masao concludes his big finish, there's a roar of approval, as Masao's audience grew throughout his performance. After the cheer subsides, the Crane bushi calls out his boasting toast to the groom, although many of his fans turn out to be fleeting. It's all for the best, though, as those who take the time to hear Masao's kind and stirring words are well pleased. A few start to comment on the Crane "who strikes with sword and flute," who spoke so nicely of his cousin-to-be, but who knows how fleeting the praise shall be.

[Kitsuki Tanaka]

Deciding to see what all the fuss was about, the Dragon courtier paid her zeni and was allowed entrance. For the most part the Kitsuki watched the the crowds. Trying to gauge the general feeling in the room toward the groom. In theory it should be pretty cordial...but as the guest list did not appear all that limited, the chance of some more disapproving opinions was definitely present.

She ended up being kind of off guard when a Crab demanded some tale of the Dragon. Given his drunken disposition, Tanaka decided it best to oblige. It was a fairly simple retelling of the Dragon's role in the Day of Thunder but it seemed to satisfy the few onlookers. In fact the Dragon wondered if she might not explore this untapped talent further.

When called upon again to say a few words about the groom, Tanaka flubbed her attempt at flattery. She inwardly chided herself on being caught off guard twice in one night.

[Hida Daichi]

Daichi was almost as much of a partier as he was a warrior and he was one hell of a warrior. The big Hida almost swaggered into the room his personality taking up almost more space than his impressive stature.

"Oi! My Brother's getting married and we're all getting shit faced to celebrate!" he shouted as he bought a round, slamming sake straight from the bottle. He'd consumed enough alcohol to incapacitate a lesser man but Daichi was just getting started.

At a slight lull he smashed his massive hand on the table and stood, he looked at the table for a second contemplating getting on top of it to be seen even further away but after careful deliberation he decided it was best not to risk the broken arm. Instead he just projected his voice far and wide for as many to hear but still with a measured voice not just shouting

"I've known this one since neither of us could tell our heads from our asses!" he said motioning with his bottle toward Yoji "he's a big quiet teddy bear of a man, don't let all the muscles fool you he's really just a big softy deep down!" Daichi had started moving toward Yoji and as he did so his voice got softer but not that much quieter as he looked at his brother "But dammit if he isn't one of the finest warriors I've had the pleasure to serve with and one hell of a brother to boot. Not sure how good you'll look in that powder blue but I know your heart will always be that of a Crab!" he clapped his brother on the shoulder and held his bottle up high "A toast to Hida Yoji the mighty! Show those damn birds what a Crab is made of!" and he took a deep swig of his sake bottle as he patted his brother's back.

[Shosuro Himeko]

Himeko knew the kind of events Crab samurai throw; she'd experienced them before, and knew where her limits lay. She wasn't going to drink too heavily, and her appeal would be in how everyone else coped with the drinking.

The music was nice, and she'd had a little to drink, but not enough to knock her over. So, as there was sharing of singing and dancing, Himeko joined in the dance. Her style however was not the traditional Rokugani; there was a lot of movement in both her arms and legs. Lots of twirls. It was an extremely energetic dance, but it was ascetically beautiful.

She couldn't help but join in when the roasting started though

"I can see why Daidoji-sama would be pleased. One could plant many flowers with a reach that wide, ne?"

The party was too noisy and too alcoholic for Yuma's taste but it was his duty to his clan to show up and put in a few nice words for everyone involved.

"So you're veterans from the Battle of the Iron Shied? Oh yes I've heard of it. Quite incredible that you managed to keep your cool and your positions under such a relentless rain of arrows. You couldn't move forward due to the terrible terrain but as long as you stayed there the archers couldn't pass either and thus couldn't threaten the bulk of your army. So you steadily endure, for hours, with just natural cover and your armors to protect yourselves.

Clearly the Crab has no rival when it's about stoically taking blows... No I'm not saying you're inborn punchbags at all. You might have drunk a bit too much... No I'm not saying that you cannot hold your liquor either. You..."

A bit late Yuma understood that at least one of the Crab had been actively seeking a fight for some time already and that they jumped on the first opportunity to do so. He wasn't interested himself so he just endured and let himself fall to the ground when the "samurai" punched his face hard. There he remained motionless as they added a few kicks for good measure before leaving as this wasn't nearly as fun when the other side wasn't cooperating.

After some more pacific person helped him to his feet he kept the conversation as a personal, pleasant and prudent level. His toast was of the same ilk:

"I know little of Hida Yoji-sama myself. But I know of Doji Bujeihime-sama and she would never have accepted a son-in-law that was not a perfect samurai himself and the very best of what the Crab has to offer, strong, brave, triumphant!"

[Otomo Saisei]

The Imeprial Nakodo should be present in all the festivities, but he surely wouldn't allow his immaculate image to be soured by such endeavors such as a Crab groom stag party. That is one of the main reasons he had Saisei tagging along.

Politely offering the three pieces to the bouncer at the door, the low-ranking Otomo shields any stain to his honor with dutiful service. He was required to pay, drink and boast today. That is what he would do. After all, nothing done in the name of the Emperor and Imperial authority can ever be truly dishonorable. Being the very same mantra he repeats as he enters depravity of the Hole.

Joining the many guests and the Crab in their shared drinking, Saisei doesn't back down and doubles the dose after being offered the initial partake amount. A good cheering from the hosts can be heard as they get a bit more comfortable –– if that can be thing –– with the Imperial around.

As he's given a moment, the Otomo boasts, lifting his cup, "May the blessings of the Kami, and the Heavens itself, be poured down onto the groom and the bride, filling their lives with happiness, honor and as many children as there are cups raised. Kampai!"

Tetsuo tossed the zeni carelessly as he stepped in, full of swagger, almost five whole feet of it!

"Eh, let's see what we can find here." He went to the bartender. "Gimme your strongest stuff! No, not that! The strongest! Who do you thin the hell I am?!" His cocky attitude soon got him a bottle of....stuff. It was brown, murky, and it smelled strongly of...something. Was it the stuff they used to light the fires here? Or to spray on goblins before setting them on fire? Eh, who cares.

One gulp. It's fiiiine.
Two gulps. Eh, sure, there was something to it, but c'mon, surely no kick to it...
Three gulps....

Why is everyone moving around?

"Hey, you! Stop moving around!" He pointed to the groom...or rather next to him, as apparently he was seeing double. He started walking toward the groom, ready to give his BIG SPEECH OF AWESOME!!!

"Well then, the Groom here is a Crab, which is almost as good as a Mantis. We all know he's gonna make a great husband, he has all the best muscles for it! Furthermore..."

It's unknown what would have come up, as what did actually come up was the day's contents from his stomach.

Apparently Tetsuo liked fish.

[Kakita Yuuwaku]

As Yuuwaku arrives, the jewel on her forehead glinting with the firelight, she passes over a silver coin instead of the coppers requested. 'The true gift is being included," she says as she goes in and finds proceedings in progress.

Noting her fellow student already at work, as well as the attempts by others to be enticing, she does not deploy her own wiles--yet--but does pull out her fan and dance lithely, compellingly, to Kakita-nikutai's flute-work and to the silent attention and subsequent cheers of those already present. Smiling, she replies to them that "Ore can be good, yes, but how much better a fit for a samurai to have the refined metal, neh, and not have to flail about for it?" And if her fan gestures obliquely towards other, well, then, it's certain that they did their best.

The Kuni had reapplied his makeup especially for the drinking session. He entered the hole with a threatening look and let the tension rise a little before he asked loudly: "How much sake can we destroy today!

When the other samurai started to make praises and jokes about Yuji, he joined in and said, "A magnificent crab, he will definitely be missed!

Unfortunately, Takeshi's praise was drowned in the other samurai's howling when another samurai made a very good joke about Yoji.

This place is a seedy hole, but a performer never ought to complain about the venue

Ren shakes his head, dismissing the thought. He was about to walk into a bar with a number of people drinking and who might not like him. He was going to need to steel himself. With a shake of the limbs to loosen up, he was ready to go in, handing a few zeni to the doorman. He decides to play to the crowd, telling stories about how tough the Crab were.

"-and so the Phoenix looks the man up and down in amazement, his eyes glassy as he tries to keep up with the Crab he challenged, barely able to sit up straight. His jaw drops. "You...you drank six bottles of sochu right before this!"

The Crab nodded sagely and replied, "Nothing like a bit of light drinking to warm you up"

Ren pauses for laughter, getting a large round of guffaws from the normally reserved Crab. "But enough about fun and games, we have a serious matter at hand! We are sending a man to the warm embrace of matrimony!" He clears he throat and raises his sake cup. "They say that you can judge a man by his friends. That you can judge him by his enemies. But I think that you can truly say that something is special when you can bring together such a disparate lot under one roof, and have one hell of a party!"

There is a raucous round of cheers to that.

"To the groom! May the wedding day and night put this gathering to shame!"

Another round of cheers and wolf whistles is loosed from the crowd.

Hanatsuko came into The Hole and decided to partake on the festivities. She paid the 3 zeni and took out her flute. She knew she could play fairly well but seems that her finger slip on the last note of her merry tune. She paid her respects to the Crab for such joyful event.

[Daidoji Kaneko]

Kaneko arrived, paid the fee and enjoyed an evening of drinking before she found a moment to interject a family story of an ancestor who had been privileged to be a member of the Daidoji Heavy Regulars and trained with the Crab on the Carpenter Wall. She spoke highly of the Crab and turned that into positive allusions about the groom. She spoke well enough that perhaps a few people would remember her the next day... if they remembered anything at all.

To say that this wasn't Keigo's sort of scene was a terrible underestimation of how not at home he was. There were a whole lot of people being very loud, which was essentially the precise opposite of his usual environment. The only thing it reminded him of was certain nightmares, and he was rather glad that at least the mood was light and boisterous rather than aggressive. That... would have been much more difficult.

Fortunately, it seemed that a whole lot of drinking to the groom was in order! He could do that. He could do a lot of that.

He could, in fact, do enough of that to be able to participate in the roasting of a man he absolutely one hundred percent did not know aside from what he saw right now. "To the Groom! Seeing the obvious penchant for delicacy, may he try not to break the bride in half."

And with that, he exited his inebriated self into the crowd as quickly as possible.

[Bayushi Shitoru]

As this was a proper party, Shitoru made his way, paid the cover charge and sat down for a drink. After several toasts he was feeling quite well. The Crab surely knew how to enjoy themselves, not quite yet to rowdiness of a Scorpion wedding, but it was early in the festivities yet.

Listening to others tell tales about Yoji, the groom, Shitoru chuckled a long, toasted when necessary and thumped his cup on the table in applause with the others when a proper jab was thrown at the hulking groom. A Scorpion giving sincere cheer with eloquence however, was not expected, and one thing Shitoru had learned was to live up to other's expectations of his clan. So when a particular gunso gave true heartfelt words of assurance to the young man, Shitoru was quick to take a risk and turn the comment on it's head into a roast.

"I would like to propose a toast, in dignified remembrance of great sacrifice. To the untold servings of tempura, bean cakes, fried fish...and blows to the head that made Hida Yoji the find Crab he is today. May the tradition carry on even in Crane lands."

[Kakita Konohamaru]

When The Hole found a magistrate at its door, Konohamaru wouldn't have been surprised if panic was their initial reaction.
Then, he handed them money.

"Excuse me samurai-san, but..."
"There is a party here tonight, is there not?"
"OH! Oh, well, y-yes. Go on in."
"Thank you."

Mostly, he was there to ensure there was no trouble, but of course when the big bad magistrate is just there to enjoy himself, suddenly someone wants to see the big wig dance.

He can't, so after some pressure he settled into a story.

"...And then I said 'well if that's not a smuggling ring, then I'm-"

And there was a fist moving towards his face.

A flash of movement, and then he felt a tiredness.

He had reacted to the attack as if it was a daily occurrence - sliding with the motion and using the momentum to launch a hard sweep - because, he realised, it was. Without thinking, the man was on his ass and covered head to toe in his drink.

"You are aware of the ramifications of attacking a magistrate."

The man said nothing, simply looking up angrily, defiantly. Realising he had gathered the attention of a crowd, he sighed and simply pointed to the door, out which his attacker scarpered.

"I wonder what that was about."

Some time later, the topic of the evening had changed to the groom -

Something about that didn't seem right - and so. Unfortunately, his courtly training had somewhat left him behind - which he found out after he had the room's attention.

"Right, right - if I may expand upon Scorpion-san's toast..."

He thought about how to twist the blows to head to something positive, and for a short while he had nothing. But what was it, what was it that made his small idea of the Hida grand?

"We should be grateful for the blows the groom has taken in the name of the Empire."

The Crab were known for their sacrifice, he remembered - surely, the same had been done here, no? From that sacrifice, came greatness.

"In the face of an Empire which has a tendency to mock and belittle for face, we forget that we are able to do because of the sacrifices others make."

The taste of sweat and blood in the air, the sound of screams left ultimately unanswered.

"Many find themselves lost in their duty, never to return to the light the Empire offers - that there are those who can fight for us in the shadows and return at all should be considered a blessing."

Another one executed in the name of Rokugan. At least this one was afforded time to see his family, even as he died screaming curses at the monster which killed him.

"So thank you. Thank you for the time you have sacrificed so that the rest of us can enjoy moments like this one - and welcome. I hope to join your number one day."

He thought to little Kio and her stylised mempo, to the bride, and to the Crane under him - all of whom were living their best selves.

He even dared to think, but for a second, of passing the mask onto someone else.

But it was Hida-san's time to return, and not his. But he would not allow the sacrifices of people like him to be forgotten.

As their mask was not built for drinking in public Ushi instead chose, after paying their dues at the door, to regale the Crab with tales of battle and glory. The tales were carefully spun to imply a first hand account but at no point ever lay claim to the victories in their own name - though if some left with that perception, well, so be it.

It was then easy enough to parlay those tales into ones praising the prowess and skill of the groom leaving those present with a solid impression of the Bayushi.

[Hiruma Ōguri]

[This event triggers a Disadvantage]

There were many who had asked him to showcase what sumai was about, and so Oguri used an opportunity to showcase an aspect of it: the ring-entering ritual dance. Still, he seemed less of a grinning, happy himself when doing so, as if his effort was burdened by something. The ritual involved making very intricate feet moves without separating them from the floor, and this is when he minimally botched it, falling out of symmetry. For the inexperienced it was barely noticeable, but for the in the know it looked like a serious mishap. That made the Hiruma quite angry, but was it at himself? He was looking at the groom.

"It takes more than raw strength to be a worthy wrestler!" The Hiruma claimed, but in the light of his own failure to impress with technique, the statement won him no favours and some condescending snickers.
