[Day 3 - MN] The Curse Manifest
[Day 3 - MN] The Curse Manifest
Event Type: Main Event
Participants: Unlimited.
Timeslots: Mid Night
Description: Something is compelling some people of the village and castle to leave their homes and walk towards the beach and into the sea. They continue walking until they are beneath the waves and drown. What could be doing this to people!
Rules: Before the player can join this event they must resist the call to the sea. This is a Void check at TN 15, if this roll is failed the player falls asleep where they are. If the roll is failed by more than 5 they are now compelled to walk into the sea and die.
If they make the roll they can participate in the event. Magic is allowed, one spell can be cast either on themself or another in a hostile manner.
A player can participate up to three times, each time the TN increases by 5 for each subsequent attempt. They can repeat any choice only once.
Choose from below:
Snap out of It: The Player can attempt a Courtier + Awareness or Intimidate + Awareness check at TN 15 to snap someone out of the haze; they can make a raise to snap one additional person out of the haze. Failure means they fail to get anyone, failing with raises means the people attack them dealing +1k1 plus +1k0 per each additional raise beyond the first.
Baywatch!: The player dives into the sea to save people; this is an Athletics + Strength check at TN 10 to save 2 people. Each raise saves 2 additional people but failure means the player suffers 2k1 wounds due to the cold and losing their breath and each raise increases that damage by 1k1 per raise if it fails.
Stop or I will Stab!: The player attacks the affected people and tries to keep them from going into the sea. This is an attack roll with a weapon, not Jiujutsu, at TN 25 and each raise can allow them to stop one additional person but failure means they fail to stop anyone and if they make raises they kill a person by accident , plus an additional person per raise and this reduces the total.
Judo Chop: The player makes a Jiujutsu + Agility check at TN 15 to grapple and tackle a person and keep them from going into the sea. Each additional raise stops one extra person and if the roll is failed with raises they suffer 1k1 plus +1k0 per each additional raise beyond the first.
Magic or Whatever: If a player wishes to use magic or another supernatural ability please consult the GM, this option can be done only once.
Rewards/Outcome: If players rescue a at least 10 people, no samurai or players are lost and if they reach 25 then no one is lost, otherwise many peasants are lost to the sea. If less than 5 people are saved a random named NPC will be lost to the sea.

There was a voice - he could hear it. Someone as lost, someone as scared as him. He couldn't see, he couldn't hear, he could only feel - he had to do something.
But why? It was so easy to let them rot. They never loved him, they only used him. They only despised him. So let them rot, no?
No.
There were people worth fighting for. That was why he let himself become so despised.
Yuuwaku...Kio...Masao...Nemu... He needed to fight for them. He would keep fighting for them.
And so, he went to search.

Minari reacted. Something was very very wrong.
Whatever was trying to lure people out to sea didn't fool her. That was not the voice of the sea she knew. "Hida's fucking balls," she said, seeing what was happening. Members of the crew trying to seemingly sleepwalking off the ship and into the water. "NO. FUCKING. WAY!"
With the unhesitating experience of a Mantis sailor, she called upon the blessings of the water-kami that let her walk upon the water and jumped overboard after those already in the water. "GET YOUR ASSES BACK UP THERE!" she panted as she dragged as many as she could in a flurry of movement, and the people she managed to haul up she tied to the ropes being let down from over the railing.
No one was going to die on her watch.

Re: [Day 3 - MN] The Curse Manifest
Yue was rather befuddled at what the locals were doing here and she almost thought it was a custom of the Crab, perhaps they liked going for a swim in the middle of the night to prove their toughness? She was content to watch at first until she realized something was off, people were staying in the sea and there was a large of cheer going around. There were cries of anguish as some villagers were forced to see their acquaintances, friends and love ones descend into the sea. She supposed she should do something about this?
She took out her bow and fired two arrows to catch their attention. It was doubtful that a warning shot was going to do anything, and she made aim for their shoulders. Her shots hit their mark and wounded two villagers. It wasn't pretty but it stopped them from going further into the sea. She tried to call out at a few others who were going for the sea as they lurched past her. However, her harsh words meant nothing to them as they walked on. As a last resort, she charged at two of them and gave them a jumping tackle as she brought them face-first into the sand.

Ren is still pretty spun up from meeting with people. He is hardly the most spiritual of samurai, but he can feel something wrong as a silent call seems to spill out into the village.
Well, it wasn't like I was sleeping anyway...
The same could not be said for others now heading toward the docks. Hemin mostly, it seemed, but that didn't mean Ren was going to just let whatever monstrosity that was at work to just yoink a meal out of people without doing anything.
"Hey. Hey. HEY!!!" Ren bellows in the ears of a few, desperately trying to break through,
He pulls out his wakizashi slashes at one heimin, but the man doesn't respond, and Ren has no interest in killing the poor bastard. Ren scream louder, but this time they turn on him, pummeling the samurai as they outnumber him.
"You poor souls..[ he mutters, even as he winces in pain

Being spiritually attuned, Naida found herself snapping out of a half remembered dream. She found herself walking the beach in naught but her armor and a belt for her daisho. The mist from earlier had stopped and Naida found the sand damp beneath her feet under a moonlit sky.
The moon also allowed her to see something else; Others were walking towards the sea as if in a trance. ...and they weren't stopping. Yelling out, she tried to wake people up, get them to stop. It worked for a while... but it took a lot of loud shouting, and soon her voice gave out. After that, no deal of waving her swords around was any good; The walkers were too blinded to respond to mere visual threats.

Whatever was happening seemed to have little effect on the Monkey. She ran into the water, swimming out swiftly to pull people back to shore.

The other Kitsuki joined in to stop this madness. Her impassioned words managed to snap a few out of it, but frustration and fear took over. She attempted to stop one person by tackling them, only to have her face smashed for her trouble. In a final bid of desperation she dove in after one person only to be driven back by the cold of the sea.

Koemi followed along with other towards the sea, a bit of drool falling out of her lips. She wasn't usually the sort to sleepwalk around but nobody would really notice with this whole situation going on.
On her way over, she tripped on the way up the stairs and slid down to the bottom at a comically slow rate. At the bottom, she curled back and went deeper into sleep. Not today, spooky ocean.

Re: [Day 3 - MN] The Curse Manifest
Yuma had gone to bed early like a good samurai should. But his dreams were haunted by... something. Something terrible. He didn't know what exactly as his instincts forced him to wake up before it could close on him.
He found himself in his bed, sweating and panting, that something still pounding at the limit of his consciousness. He could hear people moving outside. Far too many people for that time of the night. He dressed up in haste and slipped out of his room, then out of the inn.
There he witnessed the suicidal procession to the sea. He rushed forward, trying to call back people to reason. Some listened, or at least were disconcerted enough not to stop walking to their doom. Most did not, so he mumbled some swearwords his teachers wouldn't have approved of, ran toward the beach, ahead of a group of bewitched fools, and called upon the spirits of the wind to push them back.
Guiding the eager spirits to repel without hurting those he was trying to save was a delicate task that required all of its concentration, but it did encounter some success with it so he kept his focus on it. Behind him he could hear that an improvised lifeguard had formed and hoped that it was doing a good job.

Re: [Day 3 - MN] The Curse Manifest
Soon-ja tossed and turned in her bed, before finally rising and taking a midnight stroll to try and settle her restless spirit.
To her great surprise, she found many, many people seemingly sleepwalking toward the sea, intent on drowning themselves. When gently attempting to awaken the sleepwalkers had no effect, Soon-ja fell back on the habits of a mother and a grandmother of recalcitrant children.
“YOU GET BACK IN THE HOUSE THIS INSTANT!” she shouted at them shrilly. “DON’T YOU DARE TAKE ONE MORE STEP TOWARD THE WATER! GO STRAIGHT TO YOUR ROOM AND DON’T MOVE A MUSCLE! JUST WAIT ’TIL YOUR FATHER GETS HOME, YOU’RE IN FOR IT NOW!!” The elderly woman removed a sandal and shook it at them menacingly, for greater effect.
The Crane woman’s exhortations soon took effect as many of the sleepwalkers shook off the daze and returned to their quarters, much chagrined.

Re: [Day 3 - MN] The Curse Manifest
Walking along the dock toward the boat to settle in for the night after the meeting down by the beach Yoko suddenly found herself drifting off. Catching herself on a barrel she put a hand to her head and forced herself back to her senses. "Ho- shit- didn't even drink that much tonight, everything really got you wound up huh?" she said, completely to herself expecting to be alone. Pushing herself up off the barrel she found herself shoved against it again as someone rudely pushed past her, "Hey, what gives!" she shouted, but the person just continued on.
"Or, you know- don't listen then," she said, looking down at herself to check she still had everything. While she checked she heard the splash from down the ways of the dock. Looking up she glanced around, "B-buddy?"
Glancing off the side she found the disturbed water, "Oh come on," she said, already halfway tossing off a few things she didn't want to lose in the water and diving in. Racing to swing down and rush to save them she got her arms around the big-lug but couldn't manage to bring him up. Struggle all she might she failed to get him even halfway toward the surface when her breath let out and she watched the bubbles float to the surface and the water started to burn her throat.
Trying one last time to get him up with her she couldn't muster the strength and left him. Racing for the surface so that at least she wouldn't meet her end here today. Coming up out of the water she surged forth onto the beach, coughing up water in heavy heaps with her hands buried in the sand. Taking the moment to catch her breath and think about what the next thing to do was. Call for help, right, so she looked up to find.. more people, so many more people walking toward the water and plenty of others jumping into action to do the saving.
"Not.. done.. yet.." she pushed herself up onto her knees, pulled her Katana free from her side and dug the saya into the sand as she pushed herself up onto her feet. "Keep going," she brandished her blade and offered small theatrics, ones she knew she could control and tried to keep people from walking toward the water.
While her efforts were for naught.. others surely would pick up the slack.
