[Day 2 - EE] Welcome Dinner [RP thread]

It wasn't daggers Shouji was glaring into his navigators back, in fact he was more concerned with not bursting into laughter. It would ruin his own outfit, right? Witg a small shake of his head, he let his navigator be here pretty and prim self as he strode across the the courtyard to his seat.

No doubt dressed as he was he'd be hard to approach, so for the moment he kept to himself and drinking. In time he'd spot something of interest and maybe engage someone in conversation.

[Hida Fuboshi]

Fuboshi said aloud, “Give the Mantis piss wine to the peasants.”

The Crab attendants do as instructed.

[Daidoji Yushoko]

Yushoko waved her approval with her fan at the Crane display.

As expected of course.

[Moshi Minari]

"Moshi Minari-san," he says, clearly surprised. "Please forgive me for not recognizing you." He bows his head just briefly, but long enough to process the situation. "Clearly your fine memory is sharper than my own." He smiles, though it's hard to tell whether he's simply admiring the spectacle or sensing some underlying mischief.

"This is... a far cry from sailing attire, as you're no doubt aware, but clearly proof that the Moshi are as wonderous as Lady Sun when we are honored with their presence." His eyes and smile seem more genuine now, less forced. Perhaps a lack of courtier training that he can't maintain the facade longer.

"I feel It is most unfortunate that we didn't have occasion to speak aboard the ship. Now when I wish to speak with you, I shall be waiting in line with many attentive samurai," Masao says, disheartened. His on seems mostly gone, in fact, as he looks at Minari a bit like a ship sailing out beyond his reach.

"Ah ha ha ha..." she imagined that her laughter was a somewhat okayish imitation of a girlish titter, but it just sounded stilted and awkward. And she kind of started to remember now that she had a fan! Yes! And remembered that she was supposed to hold it in front of her face. Right not all of it. Just the lower part. "'Tis quite perfectly absolutely alright, Kakita-sama. As you say, this... these very lovely fashion, uh, things, are absolutely not proper sailing attire. No siree."

The disheartened attitude was to her rather surprising, and she did seem visibly confused. Why the fuck? Just because Meiko makes me dress up, I'm... what? "Oh, I... do not positively assuredly think so, Kakita-sama? I am here! You are here! So we can conversate as proper samurai, now, yes?"

[Hida Fuboshi]

“Little Taiki-kun grew up, come a long way from shitting his small clothes at the drop of a sandal. And what is that in his hand,” she squints her good eye looking at the egg, “is that an egg. What in the dark hells is he blathering on about. Is this over?”

“We can check Badger lands off the list of courts to visit.”

[Kakita Konohamaru]

Yushoko waved her approval with her fan at the Crane display.

The magistrate signalled back with a fan in broken courtier, asking something which comes out as clAn...goOd. Any...proOblems?

Bless his heart, she rewards him with a modest smile behind her fan.

The magistrate nods with a smile of his own, then resumes his vigilance.

If there was something important, she would signal him over.

After his failed presentation of what he had felt was a good gift to his relatives, the Badger broods in a quiet corner with a serious expression, maybe frustrated or sad.

He would have to speak to his cousins later... this should be a happy occasion, and he hoped his blunder wouldn't disturb that.

After his failed presentation of what he had felt was a good gift to his relatives, the Badger broods in a quiet corner with a serious expression, maybe frustrated or sad.

He would have to speak to his cousins later... this should be a happy occasion, and he hoped his blunder wouldn't disturb that.

Konohamaru believed he had the minor clan name right with the samurai. He was obviously incredibly strong, with a strong workout regimen - natural height difference aside, it'd probably take a couple of years of dedicated work for Konohamaru to reach that physique. His own wasn't lacking, but even Mizu-Do may struggle with fighting that.

Alas, work. Perhaps in the long distant future, in another life or a comfortable monastery.

Still, it appeared something was amiss with him. In a strangely fluid motion, as if a snake was sliding through the grass of society, the Magistrate was in front of the Badger, offering a bow.

"Ichiro-san. I hope the wedding finds you well."

"Yup, it's his ship," she said, deciding against taking the liberty to talk about him. What he wanted her to know was his business. "As for my position, I attend to the rigging of the ship. Rigging is all the stuff, like rope, that keeps the ship together and allows us to adjust the sails and such."

"Ahh...so one assumes you are bothered by heights?" Tanaka smiled at that, making the poor joke all the more obvious. "More to the point I imagine the duty requires great coordination between your fellows? Or is Yoritomo-san of sufficient strength to lift the sails on her own and speed enough to be everywhere at once." Another amused bit of teasing.

"Crane-sama", he says, head low. "It... had been going quite well until before my presentation, I believe. Hoping it will continue going well, ne?", he says with a slight smile that seems... tired, maybe slightly frustrated.

"Ichiro Taiki. I do not believe we have met before? It is my honour to meet another one of the bride's Clan, Crane-sama"

Perhaps talking about something similar would help bring ease.

The Badger nods, his expression serious but calm.
"A... I pray they will. Thanks for yer words"

After bowing slightly to the Crane again after his introduction, he nods to him again.

"Yer knowledge is essentially correct, Kakita-sama. That is our sworn duty. It so happens that we've suffered... attacks, during the past 20 years or so. One particularly bad, then some others. We've been rebuilding ever since, and many of us offer our services elsewhere to help with what we can. Create ties. Provide services for favoirs. Food. Supplies. When it comes to that... Coin, even."

His eyes seem darker and even more tired when talking about the attacks, but he is quickly back to a more neutral expression.

"In me case... been close to me cousins fer quite some time now, so 's another border A've been at."

He takes a moment before speaking again.

"'s it Kakita-sama's first time in the lands of me cousins?"

"A bucket of rice is a portion still. Who defines how large or small a portion needs to be?" He smiled back. "It is always good to see that the Crane's rice was given fair use." He gave a not, still with the playful smile on his face. This one was easy to reach and liked jokes. He liked when people were easy to reach.

"Filling bellies on the Wall is the most honorable use for any rice!" he exclaimed loudly "Well other than the rice that fills an Imperial belly I suppose, an argument could be made either way" Daichi was easy to reach, a man seemingly unfettered by convention or decorum, one who didn't hide behind genteel notions of civility and propriety but rather spoke his mind freely. "You're a big one for an Asahina, most them I've got at least a head if not shoulders on."

Having seen a bit more of the act, or the attempt at it, Masao gets a better grasp of what is happening. Not sure exactly who he's helping, but feeling somehow that it's the right thing to do...

"Moshi-san," he says, in the calm voice of a soldier around the campfire. "My apologies for that little... jest. Congratulations on persevering. And, to be clear, there was no jest about how visually blessed we are by this child of Lady Sun." He bows his head deeply in respect.

The Kakita nikutai draws his own fan, opens it gently, so Minari might see how he holds it easily, without great pressure. He steps beside her, and raises the pale blue fan in front of his mouth. With his head leaned toward her just slightly, he asks, "Might a friend be in order for this evening? Your shipmates do not seem to be... singing the same tune as you are?"

[Asahina Sanaharu]

"Oh, yes, I'm pretty tall. It's uncommon for my family, yes, too. It's odd that I'm not even half-Crab or anything. My lineage has been Crane for a long time. You know, Asahina things." He tried to meet him on a more casual tone, still not lacking etiquette. "Well, what can I say? You are a big Crab too! Although this is way more uncommon, too many big Hida out there, I have seen."

[Toritaka Hanatsuko]

The Falcon sit down and sighed. "I lost focus..."
At least it didn't kill the host.
"I think you are having fun at my expense. Why do I torture myself?"

I don't know... maybe because you don't know how to have fun.

Hanatsuko sighed.

With the presentation finished, Hifumi sat down and looked around the gathering. Beyond her usual habit of doing this, she was looking for the woman from her vision. If she would encounter her anywhere, this was a likely occasion.

After the presentation (but before walking away to brood), Taiki kept his head low the whole time. He he had felt he had a good gift, and he had valued the egg... But, this time, his strength - or rather, his flawed control of his strength - had failed him. It was clear that Fuboshi was angry - he would recognise that tone from a mile away. He was sad and frustrated, but showing that would only make matters worse.

Head still low, he bowed low to his cousin, then stood upright and steady before stepping back.

That wouldn't do. He knew he could do better by the Badger, work harder to strengthen ties with his cousins - instead of breaking those he already had.

[Kakita Yuuwaku]

Yuuwaku holds her fan, just slightly open, over the lower part of her mouth. She taps thoughtfully as she watches the goings-on.

Is the old woman already drunk? she thinks, although she says nothing of the sort.

Doing so would be a good way to be thrown out. Small as she is, Yuuwaku would probably be in the air for a long time.

Interesting - while he wouldn't ask here, the services of a strong warrior such as Taiki could be a good way to make up for the limited bushi presence the clan had - especially based on his showing at the peppers festival some while earlier.

"Indeed. There is an... earnesty here. It is nice. I've been allowed to assist the law here by sincerely requesting. If I tried it at home, I would simply be rebuked."

A deep sympathy made is way across his face. He looked for something he could do - an offer he could make, a deal he could cut, anything, but nothing came to mind.

Fuboshi would have been insulted that some clans performed poorly but really she had low expectations for outsiders to begin with. She frowned when it seemed the Crane had sent people that were actually competent… horror of horrors.

It did give her pause that her son would be joining their ranks and he would not be surrounded by inbred idiots preening in mirrors.

She rose and said, “We are gathered here to honor the union of the beautiful Daidoji Yushoko and my son, Hida Yoji; we are humbled by the…”

“Piss on this, the Crane didn’t anger my sensibilities and I wish to honor their members with my praise and recognition. Eat and be merry and a personal thanks to the sons and daughters of Doji for giving this old soldier something to be pleased about this evening. It removes the bitter ashes of the Dragon and Mantis from my tongue.”

She sat and began to eat.
