[Day 1 - Early Afternoon] Pest Control

[Yoritomo Koemi]

"I suppose it could be like that," Koemi said. She hadn't exactly been posted at a castle before. "There is a routine though, yes. I don't know if a castle has the same dire consequences for failing to follow them."

She shrugged. "Less of a purpose, really. I still have to keep my eye out," she remarked, pointing to her discolored eye.

[Yue]

Yue gave her cheek a scratch for a moment and asked, "What sort of dire consequences do you have to worry when on a ship? And how would you fill your time now that you don't have a routine anymore?"

She supposed a Clan samurai couldn't possibly just start taking paid jobs and chores line a ronin.

[Yoritomo Koemi]

"Well, if the sails aren't properly maintained, then the ship might just go down into the briny deep," Koemi explained. "As for how I'll spend my time? I guess relaxing." She scratched the back of her head. So many people were asking that question and she never really had a great answer.

[Yue]

"A castle probably wouldn't collapse if it wasn't properly maintained but I've been some people who seem to think so, the same goes for businesses and inns. But I've never been on a ship, so I guess it would be the case when you're surrounded by all of that water," she said as she looked to Koemi for confirmation on that.

"Do you have an idea of what you'd like to do when it comes to relaxing? I know that there are samurai who like to hunt, maybe drink?"

[Yoritomo Koemi]

Koemi shrugged. "If a building falls apart, there's at least a chance of making it out alive. If a boat falls apart, all that's waiting is the water. I'd consider myself an adept swimmer but I wouldn't want to be forced to swim miles back to shore..." It seemed like she didn't have any faith that she'd be able to by her own might. It'd be in the fate of the Fortunes.

"I suppose I could get into hunting?" she replied, leaving out the drinking part. While she wasn't abstinent, she didn't particularly enjoy it. But why give up that part of her sailor image?

[Yue]

"I would rather be in a building but I'm not so sure I would say that if that building was on fire," she said as she rubbed her wrist and found herself scanning around the area with caution, "but I haven't really done much swimming to put much trust in the sea either. When you're courting disaster, there aren't really many places you could run to."

"You could, or go hunting with friends. Sometimes hunting is just an excuse to put yourself int a setting you're not too familiar or comfortable with. Some people enjoy it because it gives them a taste of the outdoors without actually needing to brave it. Hunting usually just takes an afternoon, rather than need to camp out and survive."

[Yoritomo Koemi]

"A ship on fire doesn't offer much solace either. If the sails are compromised, then you're at the mercy of the tides."

Koemi shrugged. "I'm sure the crew will find something to do. And who knows, maybe the village will have some interesting sights to see."

[Yue]

"I would imagine so if they have decided to hold the festivities here but we are pretty close to the border, so perhaps for security reasons too, perhaps," she shrugged.

She scratched her cheek and sighed, "I wish I knew a bit more about the Crab to know what to expect, other than the fact that they like to wield tetsubos and hit things with them."

[Yoritomo Koemi]

"The Crab have a long history," Koemi began, though she realized she wasn't exactly a scholar. "They are a resilient sort and a bit on the dour side. Centuries on that wall of theirs kind of made that a cultural thing.

"At the same time, they can find happiness in the little things."

[Yue]

"I guess I figured the dour and resilient part but little things?" she nodded and then narrowed her eyes in thought, "but happiness in the little things? What? Do you mean like staying alive maybe?"

"It's hard to stay alive without much to look forward to," Koemi explained. "Not that they don't take their duty seriously. But courage can't come out of pure altruism."

She shrugged. "Little things, though. Like... looking at a plant and thinking it's neat or petting a cute dog."

[Yue]

Yue gave a slow shake of her head, "Unfortunately, I can't imagine the Crab looking toward to looking at a plant and thinking it's neat or petting a cute dog. However, I guess I get what you're going for, Yoritomo-sama. There must be something that gets them through duty rather than espousing it again and again? Is it the sake?"
