(Day 0 LE) One Fish, Two Fish

[Hida Daichi]

Daichi sat on the dock with his back on a support post and a kiseru in his mouth a thin trail of smoke drifting up from the open end as some substance burned within. His fishing pole in his large hands as he looked out over the fading rays of light, the sunset looking beautiful as he remembered it shooting streaks of color across the dark waters.

After a morning marked with arguing with, then avoiding his mother, a tense conversation with sis, and then helping with preparations for the guests Daichi needed to just relax for bit before really blowing off steam later. For now he sat, he fished and he smoked. Enjoying some peace for a time.

Clean cut, beard was new but still it was the same voice that chastised him for his form or to stop smiling and get serious. Gunso Basho spoke with the same direct but caring tone in his voice, “Heard you had returned from the Wall, Daichi-san. A Hida is never truly a Hida till they spend time on the wall, combat or not it’s a rite of passage.”

“Good to see you whole, boy. Whole enough.”

Daichi's eyebrows went up for a second but he smiled after a moment and set his rod on the dock standing and bowing to the older crab "Hida-sensei, I see we had similar sensibilities in our time apart." He said with a chuckle as he rubbed his own new beard, a bit shorter than the other Hida's but size wasn't everything.

"Hai, the wall has been....an experience. I'll be heading back after Yoji-san dons his new powdery blue kimono. Not sure if mother is trying to kill me or teach me a lesson, probably a bit of both." He said grinning "How have you been? Fire Shrimp as boring as always?" He asked as he raised the eyebrow over his lighter golden colored eye.

“It’s quiet, which can be good and very bad,” he said in response.

“Some of the bushi see this as a vacation or get lax; that’s when I have to whip them back into the proper mindset. We have to always be ready, but things are good here. Kitusuchi-dono has proven to be a good leader, just as I knew she could be.”

“Yoji-san, well he just needs time to grow. Have you had a chance to catch up with since you have been back?” Gunso Basho asked.

[Hida Daichi]

"Not a ton. I've spoken with mother who was more annoyed than anything else, probably because of the reports she received from my superiors. So about the same as usual. Kitusuchi-chan gave me a brief 'you can do so much more if you just applied yourself' speech and Yoji-san was Yoji-san, some grunts and head nods we'll probably catch up more over drinks sometime. Bujaro-kun was happy to see me though so there's that." He finished with a smirk.

"I'd be happy to sit in on a drill session, show any fresh recruits what some time on the wall does for ya, maybe even surprise my old Sensei with how much I've learned the last couple years." He laughed and then took a deep drag from his kiseru before letting the smoke out away from Basho, he wiped the end off and made a gesture with it toward the other man, an offer to share the contents.

“Bujaro loves everyone, especially if they have food. Well, take this as advice or just noise, but as you get older, Daichi-san, the times where we are home with family become rarer and rarer. Especially as weddings begin to happen, even more so when we lose kin to another Clan,” Gunso Basho responded.

He raised a hand to refuse the kiseru and then added, “Your brother has done good work, but he’s been distracted. I thought it was nerves for the wedding but it seems something more than that. Might be the sort of thing he might talk to kin about and more precisely a brother. Could be nothing but as I always say, a soldier with two burdens on the mind, is weighed down in a fight.”

Daichi shrugged and put the kiseru back to his lips taking a long drag and blowing up into the air, he stayed there looking up for a while "yeah you're probably right, ive just always been the odd one out. Ever since dad...." he let the sentence drift to an end like the smoke being carried away by the gentle breeze from the ocean, his expression far off and somber.

After a second he shakes his head and looks back to Basho "But yes family is family and I need to spend time with them while I can." He cracked a grin to the other Crab "Ill be sure to let Fuboshi-dono know who to blame for me being inflicted on her."

Gunso Basho cracked a wry smile and said, “If this ends up with me in hell just know I will be waiting there to strangle you when your time comes. It might not hurt to try and be respectable every now and then, might make things between you and Fuboshi-dono easier.”

[Hida Daichi]

he raised an eyebrow, his own smile wry in return "Im just sitting here on the docks fishing right now, seems like a perfectly respectable downtime activity. I dont spend all my time drinking and fighting. Just most of it."

He nodded thoughtfully and just said, "It's in the blood."
