After dinner Daichi figured it was as good a time as any to try and learn more about his intended. Still in one of his finest kimonos, which looked of obvious quality and had been made to showcase his well muscled physique as much as a kimono can, Daichi made his way down to the docks and then to the ship called the Drunken Shark.
He approached and announced his presence loudly his rich baritone booming up to the ship "It is Hida Daichi here to see the captain of the ship!"

The crew let him onboard and the woman is waiting in a kimono of Mantis green. It shimmered in the light and she said to Daichi as the crew got back to work, “Welcome to my home away from home, is this your first time on a Mantis kobune?”

Daichi bowed "it is indeed Yoritomo-sama, fine ship as far as I can tell. I'd seen them on occasion delivering supplies and such but never had the opportunity to get on one. I suppose I should get accustomed to it eh?" He said with a grin as he raised an eyebrow.

“Getting your sea legs may take some time, and even the best of us can get shaken. She moved to the side that looked towards the horizon. So I am sure you have questions, might as well have it out now,” she said as she lit up and took a deep drag.

"Well I suppose the most obvious one is why me?" He asked moving up next to her "Mother said you've been insistent for months, what makes me special? Plenty of samurai man that wall, all of em could put babies in you more than a few come from good lines. Why pick me?" It was the nagging question, piece that didn't fit to him.

“Well to be honest your mother was the first to respond to my inquiries after some time. I wanted to be attached to a family of worth, nothing noble, not that fancy or worthy but somewhat connected and wanted someone that could fight,” she said honestly.
“Your name came up, did some research, as much as one can do from the sea and made my decision. I had a need and you fill that need. Did you think it was something more than that?”

Daichi shrugged "didn't know what to think, frankly youre a beautiful captain you could have your pick of suitors and ive never been on anyone's short list for that kind of thing before. Just weird to wrap my head around is all. But I suppose I should congratulate you on your discerning taste then." He finished with a grin.
Daichi took on a more casual bearing leaning against the nearest support he eyed her up and down a little a lazy smile on hos lips the whole time "So whats your rush to get married again anyway?"

"It's our Duty, the Crab don't need more soldiers for their wall?" she said with a smile.
"I didn't get to choose my past husband and he was... okay, but I like the idea of having some control over my fate."

Daichi nodded "Hai, I can respect that Yoritomo-sama, carving your own path, doing things your own way. These are things I can appreciate."
He stretched a little looking around the ship "So based on your description of what we'll be doing in assuming you and your crew are, what did they call it? Privateers yes? That must be an exciting job to do."

“It is exciting, we go where the action is to stir some trouble up. Right now we are giving the Phoenix our attention but next year who knows. Sometimes it’s just moving goods from one place to another, sometimes it’s that but without all the encumbrance of the law. We have special dispensation to have some autonomy but we give our due back to the Champion.”
She blew out some smoke and said, “A strong fighter will go a long way to making my transactions all the easier.”

"Well a good fight is one of the three joys i have in life and it sounds like this ship might be the next best thing to a Neverending war to keep me in a constant supply of violence." He said grinning.

"Well then cheers to more violence," she said chuckling.
"Surely you have other interests?" she added turning to look at him.

Daichi chuckled back looking at her "I'm a very simple man Yoritomo-sama, there's about three things in this world I care about, a good fight, a good fuck, and good food." He said putting up a finger for each entry "though I do enjoy playing a bit of shamisen between those activities as well." He finished with his usual grin.
"If you were hoping for someone deep and complex Yoritomo-sama, this ain't it I'm afraid."

"Simple is good, I can work with that," she said chuckling.
"Not looking for deep or complex just more than what is visible on the surface."

"Wear most of what I am on my sleeves Yoritomo-sama, as I said before i'm a direct person. Don't really much care for secrets or schemes just sort of take things as they come and handle them how I see fit. Live in the moment and all that." he said smiling "That's all any of us can do, just make it to the next sunrise and when we get a point where we won't not leaving any regrets behind. No words unsaid, nothing undone we wanted to do."

"Does that work for you? I thought I was a free spirit but you might have me beat, Daichi-san," she responded.
"I have plenty of regrets, sinful or otherwise," she said looking at the water. "Maybe you're the Little Teacher reborn, mister live in the moment."

Daichi burst out a laugh at that "Hai maybe I am though I'd say then either the little teacher's soul got dirtier as the centuries passed or they left out a lot in telling his stories."
He settled a little and looked out on the water next to her "When you grow up here, in Crab lands and you're a warrior you know you will likely do time on the wall and the things you see there." He paused he was too much a courageous man to shiver but he voice was different "people forget. People that only read about it in books the horrors that are beyond that wall but we don't we Crab always remember because we see them all the time, I've fought things that people couldn't think up in their nightmares." Another pause and a deep breath "when you see things like that Yoritomo-sama you either wrap yourself in honor like a cloak against the cold, or you realize none of it fucking matters. Being polite, watching what you say, doing all the social rituals the right way, none of it will mean shit if the Crab don't do what we've been doing for centuries. So I dont worry about it."
"I live my life, the way I want more or less. I pay enough attention to not get banished or executed but other wise, fuck em. Does it work for me? Sometimes. Sometimes not but I'm still here and every decision I've made has led me here." His smile returned as he looked to her more genuine, without touches of mischief or flirtation "and I get the feeling I'm going to like where I've ended up."
