(D1 LM, The Sea Fox) Still Aboard

Koemi had spent a fair amount of time aboard the ship. It was her way of avoiding the people, really. Nonetheless, she always had something to do aboard the ship. And in this case, it was training her kouhai.
"You may have some fancy kama," she explained, "but that doesn't mean they will carry you through on their own." In her right hand, she held her katana. In the other, a kama. "Show me your stance."

Tetsuo spread his legs, lowering his center of gravity, raising one kama high, the other to the side. "That's why we're trained in jiujitsu senpai." He stated the obvious, his eyes, looking on the katana with some concern. She had reach, he had flexibility.

"Partially," she admitted. "What I meant is that you need to be good at using them. Not to imply that you're not."
An awkward cough. "But I am wondering: do you know how to throw them?" A pause. "Maybe you want to use some... Less special ones?"

Tetsuo throwned. "Erm...well, I was trained. Not my main focus, but sure." He put away his prized kama, and pulled out two more than were more of the plain kind. "What should be the target? The mast?"

"You never know if you have to." Koemi frowned. "But it doesn't make as much sense for you," she admitted, waving around her off-hand kama.

tetsuo waved around his two kama. "What? I have four on me usually, I've got a few to spare to throw." He smirked. "The katana-kama combo is interesting. I assume most others are not used to seeing it?"

"But do you have time to put away your special ones and take out the less-special ones in the middle of a fight?" Koemi asked, genuinely wondering. It seemed unlikely to her. "Did you never train in katana and kama before? It takes some getting used to, wielding the katana with only one arm. I wonder if some inspiration was taken from Niten."
She gave a couple practice swings with her katana. The kama acted more as a guard. "It's actually a lot harder using the katana in one hand. But the added benefit of a guard is worth it. Plus, as you mentioned, the unfamiliarity of it can help mitigate the difficulty."

Tetsuo shrugged. "I can throw my storm kama if my enemy is running away, or something. As long as I don't throw it off the ship....though that kinda goes against the point of using knives." He smirked at the contradiction.
"I did train with the katana a bit." He tucked away his right hand kama, and pulled out his katana. "So I keep the kama off-hand, to hook and parry any strikes coming into close range, I guess."
He took up a stance, trying to mirror what his senpai was doing.

"Exactly that. Or if your enemy is in a hard to reach place and armed with a bow," Koemi offered as examples. "It's why I keep four of them with me. I doubt I'll ever run into somebody that I'd throw four of them at." She shivered; somehow that seemed like a foreboding part of her future now.
"Makes sense why you wouldn't focus on that. I'd love to use such a venerable set of storm kama if they were bestowed upon me," she commented, glancing at them with some envy. She wouldn't try to take them from him, right?

Tetsuo followed her eyes. "Want to give them a try? While I do some practice moves?"

"No, no, that would be improper," she answered. Clearly she wanted to but it did seem like the wrong thing to do.

Tetsu rolled his eyes, turned and threw his kama into the mast (barely hitting, if it were a few inches off the mark, it'd would have sailed past it) and tucked his katana in.
Drawing out his two precious kama, he offered them to her handle first.
"C'mon senpai."

"Hey, hey, we could throw into something other than the ship," Koemi said. She walked up to the mast and eyed the damage. "Shouldn't be too much but that's beside the point."
She looked back to the kama and shook her head again. "I don't want to take advantage of your kindness." She tapped on her cheek below her discolored eye as further evidence.

"What are you, a Crane now? Two refusals." He rolled his eyes again, before waving the kama towards her. "Take them. C'mon."

Koemi hissed and slammed her kama into a nearby barrel. She then snagged the storm kama and weighed it in her hand. "Interesting weight to it," she commented before raising it to her eyes. "Good metal too. Definitely not meant for crops."

Tetsuo smirked. "Hai, no crops here. They've got a good grip, though the weight is different from the usual kama. The handle is heavier, so it has a different weight distribution. You can get used to it though."
Meanwhile he raised his katana, in a one handed stance. "What do you recommend when striking one handed?"

"I don't think these would ever touch anything other than flesh and bone," Koemi remarked. "Well, and armor, clothing, whatever. You get the point." She rotated it around her hand and held it back out to him.
"As for the katana, keep in mind that you're not swinging it with your arms. Power comes elsewhere." She held her own out and looked back to him. "It takes a tight grip and control, yes, control is the biggest part. Two hands gives more leverage so you must make your singular grip count for two."
