This time the Toritaka came earlier to the Blue Bird House. She decided to leave both pets outside. "I know... I have to do this and inform Kakita sama of what I have found."
I am not a pet sitter.
"You used to enjoy taking care of her. Why not now?"
I just want be there for you.
"You are always here for me."
She patted the bird and let him perch someplace safe. "Be good."
She walked into the house knowing the way smiling politely to the servants. She knocked on the frame of the door. "Kakita sama?"

Setting aside his pile of notes so there was room on the small table, Konohamaru slid open the door to allow the Falcon clanner access with a bow.
"Torikata-san. I hope your research was more fruitful than mine. Tea?"

"Yes.. to both." The woman came into the room. "The wreckage is was real... 10 years ago." She closed the door behind her. "The ship name was the Azure Orchid." She reported as debriefing of her findings. "Same day Bujeihime sama and Gusari sama dueled." She let the words sink in."The crew was lost."

Konohamaru nodded at the knowledge.
"Apparently Hida Hitomi was a child out of wedlock, who was accepted by the Crab after a Hida and Doji had a child out of wedlock. She can create insects and vermin at will in this space, and I suspect the power to change people's perception of events - I don't know which but have nothing to prove it, however."
He guided the pair to his table, with his notes and Aji's notes.
"From a trusted diviner, we need to reunite... something to end the darkness. I think it's her and her parents, but had to take care of clan business so I couldn't find who they are. Between the three of our notes, should be try and work out how to break the cycle for good?"

"The Kuni said that there must be an object that is linking the spirit to this realm." She pondered. "The object must be destroyed in order to set the spirit free. Do have any idea on what this object might be?"

An object...
Hmm.
Interesting - this presented two contradictory theories, both of which could be true - reunite something or destroy something. ...Or reunite the object with the spirit world by throwing it down the cliff by the shrine?
"Nothing comes to mind - something in the sea, perhaps, since people are dragged there. Might be something if we put our notes together, but nothing comes to mind."

"Yes of course..." She looked at all the papers around the Kakita's table and room. "May I take a seat, Kakita sama?" She bowed. "I can help organize these and compare what I have found."

"Of course."
He gestured to a seat - and began pouring through the notes. There would have to be
something in between all of these papers. Some kind of... he didn't know the term for what kept spirits around, but something binding them here. And if the Falcon said something needed to be destroyed, she was probably right.
..Might need to take lessons about how shugenja work after this, even though he usually left it to the district specialist...

Hanatsuko took a seat and started to try and sort out what object to destroy.
I doubt you'll find out what it is from these notes.
"Shhhhh" She whispered to herself. "What did Aji san told you after I left?"

"There is another tale - one where Gusari and Bujeihime were lovers or entangled, and had a matching pair of little toy soldiers they kept on them at all times. Maybe one was given to the child?"

She gave it some thought. "I see... maybe not given to the child but a symbol of set union that calls to the child. Making the two her parents." Perhaps that story she made was somewhat real giving a name to the lovers. "Hitomi could be a bastard of the two but not being acknowledged by the two." She nodded. "Would you mind if I try something, Kakita sama?"

A nod.
"As long as you don't try and kill me."

"No, Kakita sama... I thought that since you are staying in this room there might be a secret compartment. That is why the child called you father." It was worth a shot. "Perhaps her father was staying in this room." Hanatsuko explained.

Konohamaru had not considered the possibility before, in fact.
But after being called daddy, and the hug from earlier, he instinctively palmed his jitte, woeful that he was unarmoured.
"What did you have in mind?"

"Sadly I haven't trained Sari to find hidden objects but still we can investigate the room. We might need a bit more lighting." She nodded. "Have you felt any lose boards on the floor? Can you tell where did she exactly appear?"

"Ah - she appeared in one of the banquet rooms, not my private study. I was where I was 'last night' when she appeared."

"I don't know if I'll find anything but it is worth a try." She moved where she saw the girl appear the previous night and started searching the floor. She wondered if she would find something.

The object they think they need to find are two wooden soldiers, one of a Crab and another of a Crane. These were held by the Bujeihime and Gusari, respectively.

She knew it was a long shot. "I guess the item is not hidden in this room." She stated the obvious.
That was a loss of time.

Something... clicked.
"The dolls."
Konohamaru paused.
"It's the dolls, isn't it? That must be her anchor to this world - An otherwise forgotten child from a disallowed union, who was likely given one or both of the dolls as a memory of the other parent, split apart by duty. In the fighting she must have drowned - or been dragged off - with only the doll by her side and her life taken from her."
"Should we call her? Ask her about the dolls?"

A shrug.
"I'm asking you because I trust your judgement on spirits."
