Wedding at Fire Shrimp Village an L5R PbP

The creature is feasting on a large cart of fish, it stands larger than twice the height of a man but is hunched down eating voraciously. The upper body and head is covered in eyes that see in all directions and the large mouth is lined with razor sharp teeth that tear through the fish flesh.

It has two large muscled arms with talons at the end of long fingers. From the chest protrude two tentacles like spikes and it looks bipedal with large powerful legs. Whatever it is, it seems to have come from the sea, as it drips with water.

The sky is showing the first signs of sunrise.

OOC: Open to three characters, please pass a Fear 3 (TN 20) check and the players start at 30 feet from the creature. This is a highly dangerous encounter and the players have 8 rounds max for reasons.

With the Chaos and everything going on, Hiruma Roger is out late of course. He noticed the creature in the street and calls out raising the alarm.

Naida had thought to check on the creature, make sure it was still there. Unfortunately for everyone but the creature. It was. And there was the Hiruma, raising an alarm and getting ready to fight it again. Given yesterday, as it were, she knew there was precious little she could do against the creature... but she would not leave the Hiruma to fight it alone.

She charged in, blades drawn. Naida was scared to find out what would happen if she died here, even if the day did repeat again. But she wandered the Empire to be a hero, to be a great person, to live up to the example of Lady Hitomi. She would not let the fear conquer her.

The Badger approached the docks in full armor again. This time, however, he approached slowly, carefully - and he carried a lit torch in his hand, the Ono on his other hand.

He remembered what happened yesterday. He remembered hitting that thing hard, to no effect.

And he remembered the creature staying away from the fire, flinching and falling down when the Hiruma hit it with flaming whip.

He wasn't sure how the same things would be. Some things had been exactly the same, some not.

But he... somehow hoped the creature would be the same, at least. If someone had come here to fight it, remembering it from the day before would help. Even if his strength apparently couldn't...

He walked closer much more carefully than he had the day before. As he approached, he saw the same two people who had been by his side the night before.

"Kitsuki-sama, Hiruma-sama", he screamed as he came closer. "We've dain thes ance afair. Dae ye min'? Hin' hates fire, 's weak tae it.", he said, shaking the torch in his hand as he came closer. "Keep far frae it!"

As he got a bit closer and saw the creature again, however, the myriad eyes had the same effect on him as they had the day before. He felt his legs weaken, felt as if the weight of his body had increased.

This was too much like the previous day. But with some luck... they would do it again.

The samurai was fearful but the eyes of the creature turn quickly to the source of fire and it hissed and then backed away slowly before it gnashed at the source of flame and then ran and slipped into the waters!

Taiki uses Light it is highly effective.

"Hai" He follows it to the waters edge and tries to judge where it is going from there, watching the water.

Nope THAT'S not working. Naida moves closer to the fire.

"Just looks like still dark water to me. Afraid I can't be of much help here."

Taiki nods to the others. "Hai, we cannae let it jus' gae... ur let us be surprised"

He extends the fire closer to the edge of the pier and examines it. He tries to pay attention not only to what he sees, but also to any different sounds, or even smells.

The creature dives deeper into the waters, wherever it is fleeing to, it must be deep under the natural harbor. How could a person hold their breath long enough to reach such depths?

"The creature is of Ningen-do , possibly even an ancient pet of the Ningyo. It would naturally live in underwater caves, likely stirred up by the other supernatural events. If we can solve the other problems with the storms and the seas, it will likely return to its natural habitat, but if this continues more such monsters may come crawling out of the depths. I should report this to the castle at once. "

She does, however, put her swords away.

The Badger seems... puzzled, to say the least. But at the same time some understanding seems to dawn on his eyes.

"Yeah... tha' thin' bein' natural is.... yeah"

He then looks at the sea again. The waves seemed to be a bit different for the last two days, but just for a while? It all sounded strange.

But maybe...

"Kitsuki-sama. Hiruma-sama. First o'aw.... thanks. Fer bein' heer again, yeah? En'... i may be tha' we'll hae tae be here again the-morrow 's well."

He looks at them, bows.

"Ye... do 'mind tha', yeah? 'En... ye ken tha' callin' o' the sea? Ye've felt it awso? The-day 'en yesterday?"

"Again? Not sure about again, I don't normally adventure out this late but with the chaos I figured I should investigate. Has this happened before?"

So... the Hiruma didn't remember it, then?

The Badger bowed low. He remembered how his cousin had reacted, but... nothing he could do but be honest. The man had saved his life the day before.

"Sae... ye don't min' then, eh, Hiruma-sama?", he said, still bowing. After some time, he straightens himself and continues.

"This heer's 'appened afair, yeah. Same monster, same place... same fowk. Kitsuki-sama, meself... and ye, Hiruma-sama. Jus'... yesterday we didnae ken this... animal? Thin'? This - was sae susceptible to fire. I' was an ugly fight. 'En... ye kept me opp. Flailed it wi' a flamin' whip ye called, 'en healed me back tae live."

He looked straight into the man's eyes, his own look unflinching.

"Ye... don't seem tae remember tha', bu'.... Ye can dae aw tha', cannae ye, Hiruma-sama? Keep 'un opp when they're hurtin'? Heal 'un back? Call a flamin' whip? A 'mind aw tha', ye see. I has 'appened."

He looks to the Kitsuki, as if assessing if she does remember it all.
