[D1 - EA] Menial Labour, Artistic Endeavours (open-ish)

[Amika]

After moving through the hinterlands and travelling from the border, Amika arrives at the local inn. She had absolutely no money, so she had no other choice to see if she could offer her services to the owner of the inn and reach an arrangment in order to, at the very least, not have to sleep on the streets or outside the village.

She didn't have much on her, except for her clothing and a few things inside her pack. She enters the main hall of the inn and waits for the person that is in charge of this establishment.

[Dapper Dog]

An older woman shouted from the back, “Jun get the clothes on the line to be dried, we got customers!”

She then approached the ronin and said in a nasally voice, “How can this humble innkeep be of service to you? Let me guess a woman of the waves and you need a place to stay?”

[Amika]

'' Konnichiwa, honorable obaa-san...'' Amika bowed quite gracefully to the old heimin woman. '' This one name is Amika. I hope that you had Inari-no-kami's blessings today? '' She greeted the old woman as she raised her head.

'' hai, this one is as you say honorable obaa-san...'' The ronin replied with a nod. '' Unfortunately this one has no money to pay for the privilege to stay in your establishment, but i'm willing to work and offer my services in exchange for a place to stay. If such arrangement is fine with you, honorable obaa-san.'' She said, quite formally, speaking to the heimin.

'' This one is not very strong, nor has any experience or knowledge about running an establishment such as this one, but this one is willing to learn and help.''

[Dapper Dog]

"Can you clean clothes? Make beds?" she asked.

"You do any fancy music?"

[Bayushi Shitoru]

While Himeko was off bathing, Shitoru went to the inn to secure rooms for the duration for the duration of the celebrations. He was in fair spirits, stepping lightly. When he entered the building he removed his hat and unfastened his cloak, making certain his hair as still properly bound. Seeing the ronin with the innkeeper, he waited a beat or two for the old woman to look his way before interrupting.

"Obasan, good day", he accepted a bow and returned it with a nod. "I am Bayushi Shitoru and have need of rooms, as you have need of coin I gather."

He acknowledged the ronin with a slight nod. Just enough to allow the woman to know he understood that he barged in on her, but this is the way.

[Dapper Dog]

"Hai, samurai-sama. Jun, show him to an open room," she said in reply.


A young woman appeared from the kitchen and said, "Samurai-sama, please... please, follow me."

[Amika]

"Can you clean clothes? Make beds?" she asked.

"You do any fancy music?"

'' This one can certainly clean clothes and make beds should it is asked from her.'' She nods. '' I do have some skill in the art of singing though nothing to impressive...'' She adds and looks around noticing that the inn have certain patches where it was lacking painting or it was decaying.

'' This one is a painter though. I have some skills on it and maybe, if you are willing obaa-san, this one can help in that area...'' She offered.

Then the Scorpion samurai entered and somewhat interrupted her. It was not a big deal after all, she was a ronin and he was higher status than her. Amika make way for the Scorpion samurai, and bowed towards him, lowly.

[Dapper Dog]

"Okay so you clean beds and clothes... and you want to make a pretty painting?" she said with an incredulous eye.

[Bayushi Shitoru]

Shitoru bade the young woman to lead the way but overheard talk of painting and stopped. He waited just a moment to hear what the ronin would claim.

[Amika]

'' hai, This one can do many things. But only if obaa-san wishes so and trust this one with such work. '' Amika bowed again to the heimin woman. '' I can only offer my humble skills in exchange for the honor of staying in your establishment, and it is the least this one can do to repay your trust and goodwill.'' She adds as she continues to bow to the heimin.

“Well you’re a painter? You want to show your goodwill I want a painting of Hida-Kami in all his glory on this wall. Can you paint something like that? But make it tasteful. But it’s Hida so will be really handsome and real big muscles. I’m old but not dead,” she said in reply.

[Bayushi Shitoru]

"Surely then", said Shitoru as he returned toward the two women. "This artist will not be making beds while also bringing glory to your inn through her craft."

[Dapper Dog]

"Surely she can do both?" she countered.

[Bayushi Shitoru]

"So you'd like poorly made beds and poorly painted Hida, rather than one or the other done to perfection, I see. I was confused as to your request regarding the painting then, perhaps I heard wrong."

[Dapper Dog]

The innkeep looks at the Scorpion with a confused look, "I could train a dog to make a bed, samurai-sama, surely this wave girl can make some beds in the morning and paint in the afternoons."

[Amika]

'' If that is your wish, then i will do so obaa-san...'' She bowed again to the old heimin. '' Certainly it will be an honor to paint Hida-no-kami leading in all his glory.'' she adds humbly.

She listened to the exchange between the heimin and the Scorpion samurai in silence. It was not her place, to interrupt the exchange between the two of them, even though one was a heimin, it was probably a respected heimin in these lands, and the scorpion was a clan samurai of higher status by default. Amika just continues to bow in response to the woman's request.

[Bayushi Shitoru]

"The allow me to sponsor her supplies so you will not be troubled for them, and she can devote herself properly to the task", said the Scorpion, knowing full well it was more paint than the ronin likely carried and surely the innkeeper didn't want to pay supplies in order to have the woman stay there for free.

"Would that suffice?" It wasn't really a question, as it had expectation tied to it.

[Dapper Dog]

“How can I refuse so honorable a request samurai-sama, by Hida’s thorny cock that is quite fine with me. Ahem, I see this as satisfactory,” she said with a broad smile.

“You only need paint, sweet wave girl.”

[Amika]

'' Arigatou, Bayushi Shitoru-sama. This one is humbled by your kindness...'' The ronin woman bowed extremely low to the Scorpion samurai. He seemed to be a good person by offering some help to her out of nowhere. She certainly was carrying some paint, thought most likely not enough to paint this request out of her own supplies.

Then she turned towards the old woman. '' This one will not disappoint you nor betray the trust that you are putting on this one and her skills.'' She said to the old innkeeper.

[Bayushi Shitoru]

Shitoru nodded, eyes behind the mask showing steady relaxation.

"As you know I will be staying here. Please tell come and report your expenses for supplies, we can have a word then."

He bowed to the innkeeper and ronin, then returned to Jun to be shown to his room.

[Amika]

'' This one will certainly do so, Bayushi Shitoru-sama.'' She bowed again to the kind scorpion samurai as he went away towards his room.

The ronin will have to do some research first if she was to do this request to perfection. She knew, as all rokugani, the general description of Hida-no-kami, but she will have to talk to some Crab samurai in order to truly know how to depict him and the wall in the most glorious and tasteful way, and to show her respect towards the host clan and one of the Divine Sons of Heavens themselves. Amika wondered.

"As you know I will be staying here. Please tell come and report your expenses for supplies, we can have a word then."

He bowed to the innkeeper and ronin, then returned to Jun to be shown to his room.

"I am seeking a proper offering as gift to the groom. Does a girl have knowledge of Hida Yoji's interests?" he asked.
