Day 4 LA - The Festival of Remembrance (Open/Event)

Posted: Tue Oct 27, 2020 9:14 pm
by Kakita Konohamaru
Event type: Fan made, sub
Participants: Unlimited
Timeslot: LA

Be not concerned with great things, but concerned with only good things.

It was a quote he remembered well as he organised people around - setting up banners, shilling koku for stalls with sweets of all kind, and setting up a simple stage where people could perform.

The theme, as hung above the stage on a flowery silk banner with thick ink writing, was "Remembrance". It was to remember - not just the good times, but to mourn those who had been lost as well - such as Hitomi, or young Hana, who was swept away by sea a mere two days ago.

The marketplace was set up with a few things in place already - a public shrine where anyone could mourn who they wished, a section by the river was prepared for wtaer lanterns to be sent, a candy merchant was placed next to a street food merchant for refreshments, and out of his own pocket a silk merchant was making Kimonos to fit with a wide variety of silks.

All of this, all of this and a sign at the front - "Remember? Want to contribute? Speak to Kakita Konohamaru in the admin tent."

It was an open show of the best and brightest of samurai culture.

Let them be the thunder, as he said in a memory ago.

Etiquette Administration, 0 raises - success, 1 festival point
- - - - -
OOC:
For those who wish to contribute to the festival, roll vs TN 15 in an appropriate skill and describe your festival event/stall. Help is also needed behind the scenes, so admin skills like commerce would be useful. Same skills will be merged into one, so if two samurai wish to contribute art they'll make a gallery together.
The more raises you make, the more "Festival points" the festival earns, with a base of 1 for no raises.
Have fun!

When the main attractions had gathered there enough people, he directed himself to the center of the event and spoke, loudly and clear, his voice helping so.

"Attention, here. Attention. Yes, this way, thank you."

He cleared his throat, hiding a smile behind his on. He liked to be the center of attentions, thing artists were often.

"Please, our honored guests, be welcome. No, not only be: Feel welcomed. This festival is not only for you who had fought and saved lives by the sea, or who are familiar with the Mantis' and the Crab's exquisite display of hospitality. It is also for all those who have cherished memories of the past, or losses of the old. Such a time has come that it is, more necessary than not, to remember yesterday, may all learn from its lessons, and hope for a better tomorrow, may the bitter cycles of time be broken.

The river flows, as there is always new water, and water once passed never repeats itself — for what does not flow is a still lake. Such should happen with time, for us to evolve, grow, and prosper. However, on this run, one should not forget, as water which runs outside the course of the river dries over the dirt and under the sun. Let us, then, remember the figures and moments of times past in a celebration to honor past itself!"

Ushi ignored the festival around them and headed straight to the administration tent.

They give a quick bow and a curt nod, not out of disrespect, but out of the importance of the matters at hand.

"Kakita-sama. A smart plan to sort them out, I suppose." The voice is soft yet firm, "The Crane have shugenja present, yes? Have they learned what this is?"

Having received her orders behind the scenes--a benefit of lodging so close to the organizer--Yuuwaku finds a place and dances a simple, plain, honest dance, one documented far back in Imperial histories as being preferred by many Crab nobles. It is one that invites others to join in through its ease, and though Yuuwaku's grace cannot be matched, the communion of it is more important than any single participant's performance.

Having heard rumors of a Crane event while passing through the Blue Bird House earlier, the Otomo starts to check on his name list and personally deliver some invitational correspondence with his Otomo seal requiring certain skilled samurai to present themselves at this festival for the betterment of the marriage festivities.

As he watches more samurai joining up, Saisei notices a blurred figure nearby, as if watching him closely. It disappears once he takes another look.

Hanatsuko decided to help out by gathering some animals and making a small petting zoo. The children were impressed by the falcon on the shoulder of the Toritaka as she explained to them how she managed giving him commands.

"Animals can be your friends if you treat them right you also must remember they are also loyal companions and even can be your family."

Hanatsuko seemed happy since it also helps her lower a bit of her guard.

Most things were what he expected of a festival, so he focused on trying to find those who seemed to react to the more specific parts of his speech. A small petting zoo was something new.

He approached the Toritaka with a bow. "Have you eaten your portion of rice today, lady?" Then looks at the animals with a more analytical eye. "This is new. If it would help with your attraction, I have a horse. I believe it could be immensely popular with children?"

Naida... well, she did what she knew. And maybe it was symbolic or something, who knew? Thus it was that she set up a stand making hats across from where Yuuwaku was dancing.

The hats were nice enough... in theory. Unfortunately, she was missing materials so they ended up more concept than reality. twine, straw, a knife... she was just missing some resin and they would have been perfect.

She looked up at the tall Crane and smiled. "I have been blessed by Inari this day." She looked at Sari playing with the children and Kuma perched away from children reach since they wanted to pull his feathers. "I think that would be a nice addition." She nodded. "I hope this aid in restoring this town."

Yuuwaku sees the Dragon at work, and amid her graceful steps, she gives a subtle, small wink.

"Kakita-sama. A smart plan to sort them out, I suppose." The voice is soft yet firm, "The Crane have shugenja present, yes? Have they learned what this is?"
Konohamaru welcomed in the Scorpion, offering him a bow and some tea.

"Basically, yes. It's the spirit of a girl called Doji Hitomi who's causing this. She implies there is four nights, on the fourth of which a young child will die. From my research, when the young child 'dies' the loops stop. There is presence of either Toshigoku or Gaki-do present."

"Hitomi can, as far as I've seen, cause boundless aggression, illness, and I suspect possess people. She can also be scared. Also avoid the docks - there's something in the water."

This information wouldn't come free, mind, but he remembered Scorpions liked thinking they were being given 'too much' information, and he was feeling... nice.

"To get out, we have portained someone needs to be reunited - we're working on who. Torikata Hanatsuko and Aji from the fertile mound shrine must be kept alive to figure this out."

Finally, he took a sip of his tea.

"Today is a nice day for a festival, though."

Giving up on the hat making for now due to the stated lack of materials, Naida just watches the graceful dancer happily from her stand, the Asahina's speech and general mood dulling any disappointment in herself or trepidation about the day. It allowed her to remember more, that same form dancing and eye winking from the past melding with this and forming a new, more complete, memory.

There may be some good to come of this yet! she thinks.

"Oh, we had not. The spirits... I thought you were a bushi, Toritaka-san, but would you happen to be a shugenja? I have something to report indeed that would be of your interest if you can feel them, regardless if you are a shugenja or not. But first, would you like to be on my company as I bring here the pony?"

Hanatsuko shook her head. "My clan is trains its bushi to be aware of the spirits and show us how to see them." She motioned the Asahina to lead the way. "I am still a warrior and was trained to fight these spirits." The Falcon looked at her pets. "Kuma you are in charge." The falcon screeched and kept an eye out on the dog.

She talked to the falcon and it... understood? Incredible. If the Falcon were trained in such a supernatural way, there was much more on them than he gave credit for. "Toritaka-san, when you woke up, were your items as well arranged such as they were on the morning of the last day? It happened to all of the Blue Bird."
