Walk Like A Senpet... On Sand (D1, LM)

[Moshi Minari]

Ah sand... it was actually kind of nice to walk barefeet through the dunes of the beach. It was one of the things she missed when she was out at sea.

Hands were tucked into the pockets of her jacket as she moved along the strip of beach. Rumor had it, there were ghosts haunting this beach. Sure, she'd have to check it out at night-time, but if there really were ghosts, perhas she could find some indication of it in the daylight hours.

"Good grief," she murmured, looking around for anything out of the ordinary. Which probably wasn't much.

She found nothing until she stubbed her toe on something sticking out of the sand.

[Moshi Minari]

"Son of a bitch!" she exclaimed angrily, hopping a bit around on one foot as she grabbed her stubbed toe.

After the inital shock of pain, Minari knelt down to check what she had stubbed her toe on. "What the fuck... better not be people leaving trash on the beach."

Something was jutting out from the sand with some digging and tugging. She pulls out a wooden figure of a warrior. Whatever paint it may have had faded with time and the elements. Parts were broken off but it was at one time of good quality and well carved. It looked to be a samurai or warrior in figure.

"Huh, what's this?" she scratched her head at first as she studied it. It didn't seem like a religious figure at first glance. Maybe she'd take it to the castle later to ask about it... maybe tomorrow... eh, there was no rush. They were probably busy with a lot of the wedding stuff.

"Let's see what the kami have to say though, maybe find out where you came from..."

Walking down to the waterline, Minari spent a good amount of time on her knees in the wet sand as she dug out a little pool for the ocean water to roll into. When enough water had filled up to make an impromptu divining pool, the Mantis priestess began chanting quiet prayers to the water kami, making sure to keep her tone soothing and calm like those spirits liked.

As a person of the seas, the spirits of water answered her call and she asked of them, "show me the journey of this figurine. Its history, its path."

Divining the abilities of an object is among the simplest lessons a student of water learns in the temple. If this spell is successfully cast on an object, you automatically learn all powers and abilities that object possesses. This is most frequently used to identify any supernatural qualities an item possesses, such as a nemuranai or a cursed weapon, but it can also identify the spell contained within a shugenja’s prayer scroll. This spell will not allow a shugenja to read a scroll if it is written in a cipher he does not understand, but he can at least identify the spell in question. This spell will also grant the caster knowledge of the item’s origin in very broad strokes, such as where it was forged, the Clan of the individual who has carried it the longest, or something similar at the GM’s discretion.

"Very interesting... very much so..." she mused, chewing her lips in thought.

"Thank you, friends - be released from your service." And with that, Minari undid the little dam keeping the seawater in the little pool, and the next wave undid the rest and reclaimed its trapped friends.

To appease the kami, she drew some intricate kanji in the sand symbolizing the five elements in a circle, with Water in the middle. The little work of art wouldn't last, as the tides would claim it eventually, but for now it was there.

"Well, time to bring you back to the ship to clean you up a bit, my little treasure."
