She observed the servants making the last-minute preparations for the reception, these things were always so… crass and crude but her people loved them so. Still with the Heir of the Empire here she had to see to it personally if only for appearances and even if she just appeared to be doing something worthwhile being seen was half the battle.

So for now she fussed silently to make everything just so.

He wanted to see what Junza decided to... But, thinking well, that would be rude. Maybe the Hiruma would have this information, and he would need not bother such a high-ranked samurai. On the way, though, there was sure an interesting face. Dressed in red with all this gold... A phoenix? What would she be doing here?

Curious, he approached her with a deep bow.

She nodded giving him her full attention and said, "Asahina-san, are you one of the visiting guests? Kin of the bride?"

"I am no kin, samurai-sama, but my lord, Kakita Haruka-dono, is. He had sent me and his son, for he could not attend."

"Good man, well respected," she said in reply.

"You speak with Hida Ichika, Champion Regent of the Crab, I am here at my nephew's wishes and I am honored to meet you," she finished.

What the actual fuck. He was literally expecting the Crab Champion to be a full armored guy with no knowledge of etiquette and much less of courtesy like Fuboshi at this point.
Thanks to Doji that things are yet sane somewhere on those lands.
As proper, he gets on his knees and touches his forehead to the ground much like he met the Empress.
He gets his court fan open in a natural gesture when rising.
"I'm the most honored, Hida-no-kimi. I'm Asahina Sanaharu, orator by the Kakita Academy. My lord will be pleased to know he received such honorable compliments by yours truly."
He knew not who exactly was her nephew. He dared not to ask.

“An orator of the Academy, surely you will give a speech during the reception?” she responded.

He nods. "I have given speeches for the events of the Crab so far. I shall do so as well tonight. To present in front of Hida-no-kimi and the Empress both is the highest honor I could dream of."

Calm your heart Sanaharu.
This is totally not the chance to prove your art to both the Empress and the Hida Daimyo.
This is totally not.

"I am always pleased to see the best of the Academy, they have yet to disappoint," she said with a wry smirk.

"Yet to disappoint the Fortunes, my lady." He replies with a neutral on... No. A slight smile. Sadane was a game he liked very much, but never played defensively.

“I pray Fuboshi has provided the Crane with all they needed during their stay here? I saw the astonishing Blue Bird House. I find it impressive how well she captured the modern styles of the Crane. A well-appointed manor that I am told was built especially for your delegation,” she said in idle conversation.

“I hope it met your exacting expectations?”

"It's honorable for our alliance such commentary, my lady. As destiny takes the most imprevisible turns, so does time, that all things make company to. To think the modern style of the Crane would one day be so greatly honored to be compared and even confused with the traditional style of your people, who painted it, is a sign that we are allies not only in words but in mind.

Nothing ever lacked to us, milady. Even what the Blue Bird House had not of a garden, the fields of this land had."

"Are you a gardener as well Asahina-san?" she asked. "I find so few chances to practice my ikebana, please say you are familiar with the art."

"I'm not, Hida-no-kimi, but as a student of the Kakita, my ability should not be lacking in any art. Just yesterday I selected some materials for use. Should you wish, it would be an honor to share."

"I could not burden you with so odious a request, but I am humbled you think so highly to share what meager supplies you have," she responded sweetly.

"I could always get more, Hida-no-kimi. This request would not pain me, but would be a high honor to deliver."

"Your generous nature is an Honor, and speaks well of your lineage. I cannot accept so generous an offer, even if I long to practice the art of ikebana with good company," she replied.

"My materials are enough for more than one craft, my lady. They come from your lands, and are no more mine than they are yours."

Third offer we go.

"Now do tell me of all the interesting things I have missed, I trust a Crane to have the pulse of this gathering," she responded coyly.

"There were many, many parties, all glorious. We were invited to a local, religious, festival, and took part in it as kin. A Shisha declared the Empress and to her, we swore loyalty. A hunt was gathered yesterday, and the day before it many from the Academy came to present a play. Many reasons for festivities, Hida-no-kimi." He realized that she may have been informed of the curse. "The troubles we had were most swiftly taken care of and are no more reason for worry."

"I will, Hida-no-kimi, I will." He bows slightly. "This one is grateful to have such a mindful host." She did not feel like a Crab, not at all.
